Jimbo, thank you for the explanation. So brazing is like soldering but using brass instead of solder. What kind of flame do you use for that. I sure you need more heat than when you solder.

There is a place here in Ohio where you can dip a whole body into a vat of some kind of chemical bath that etches everything to clean metal inside and out. I saw someone on a build thread here had that done and also the place then dipped it in something else to seal it up before primer. It very dark gray afterwards. Probably you've already looked into it.

Excellent to reach this stage. Wishing you continued health.

You are welcome! And yes, a little bit more heat, so be careful to not change the panel shape! I use my welding torch with a brazing nozzle. Also, get some flux!

A quick video on Youtube

Maybe it will help!

Good luck!

Thank you! I had forgotten about that. I did research a place here in Ventura or somewhere up the coast from me. I will need to get back on that one. That would be way easier! Probably the same amount of driving!

Thanks for checking in and directing me! Always appreciated!!!

Thanks Jimbo, but I think I will stick with soldering. Those gas welders are expensive and I don't have that much use for one. I love that aussie accent in the video Cool

We used the place in Eugene for a 66 Shelby GT 350 we are restoring, did a great job. They do all the cars for Graveyard Cars and some for Kindigit.

Thanks! There is a place in Santa Ana near me. Think I will drive by and check it out. Anyone hear of Strip Clean?

I had mine dipped and primed by the guys in Eugene about 5 years ago. I would highly recommend it if its in budget and plan. Cool thing about dipping is you get a free extermination!

Thanks for chiming in Mike! I like hearing of the positive experiences. I have researched it and have read about the solution being retained by the seams. Really gives one a reason to pause.

Has me wondering if the solution they use is able to evaporate or if it is more oily and stick around for a long time, lingering in a semi solid state, waiting to become a liquid again?

More research is definitely needed! This is where I believe saturating the seams with Ospho for awhile may be a possibility. Just thinking. “To dip or not to dip, this is the present question!”

Some new WolfParts body panels!!!! These are top notch! I needed better bumper mounts for the rear bumper. I purchased a set from Autocraft thinking I was getting something decent. Nope. They are most likely a relabeled Klokermann part. Needless to say, I am extremely disappointed. But I will not allow it to ruin my attitude. Instead, I found and am using a great company with great craftsmanship. You can feel the quality and the weight! It lets one know these are not cheaply copies of OG parts!

So here we go…..wait…..first, look at how pretty these are!

Autocraft rear bumper mount measures in at .0299 inches. It is a tight fit but it does fit the measuring tool. Can you say THIN!

Then let’s measure the new WolfParts!

Yep! You can see for yourselves. TWICE AS THICK!!!!!! THANK YOU WOLFPARTS!

And just to beat a dead horse. Here is a side by side. The WolfParts ones LOOK thicker! Go figure!

Looks like I will be welding in new mounts. Anyone want some shitty Autocraft pieces? You pay shipping and I will pre drill them for plug welds! That’s a $120 value!

Be back at it on Saturday! Wish me luck!

Metalworks

Here's a link from the MetalWorks site that explains the dipping process. And a bonus. There's a cost sheet on the web page. $60.00 for a decklid dip? Hell ya!
http://metaldipping.com/

Now back to your regularly scheduled metal fabrication!

Well, here goes round 2 on the bumper mounts at the rear end. Started by drilling out the plug welds and chiseling the Auto craft mounts off.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Then I locked the casters and leveled the car.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

That’s it - level! Had to shim the left hand side a 1/4”. Front first.

Then onto the back. Check out the 6’ level sticking out the quarter windows.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Make sure that is level.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I then mounted the mounts to the inner fender by clamping them in place.

Balanced the bumper on a clamp arm attached to a saw support.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

After I got the bumper perfectly in place, I scribed a line in the primer indicating the position of the mounts. I then disassembled it all.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Back down to just the bumper mount.

I then removed it and punched a bunch of plug weld holes. Then reinstalled it to the exact spot it had been in.

Then onto the other side for the same thing.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Once both were set in aligned, punched and primed, realigned and reclamping, I went through and plug welded them into place.

Ground down and primed.

Then bolted the rear carousel cart. YEAH BUDDY!

That’s when I got the notice. “Walking to the brewery in 30 minutes.” Got cleaned up and went and had a few beers and dinner! It’s a good life!

That's some B-E-A-UTIFUL Mounts! Thanks WolfParts!
Like I've been saying, "If you make it, they will come." I believe all of us would pay a fair price for quality made parts.

That's a nice 6' Level. As always, I envy all your great Pro-Tools.
Carry on my good Sir.

Agreed! Those are VERY WELL made parts! It was a pleasure placing those on the car. The fit was nuts on!

Could not do my job(s) without the right tools! Seems like every time I cheap out on a tool, I end up learning, relearning the same lesson. “Buy once and cry once!”

Thanks for looking in on me!

Can you say.....You spin me right round, baby. Right round. Like a record baby!

The rotisserie is done and functional. Took a few minutes to get the body off of the cart and fully supported by the rotisserie. It was tricky, because I did not want the pan attached to the body, when it is on the rotisserie, so I dropped the pan, onto the cart, while the body was hanging in the air. It was like working in opposite. I supported the pan, unbolted it, and then used a jack to lower in down on the cart.
Body and pan fully supported on the rotisserie.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I then unscrewed the support walls and removed them (after the photo was taken).
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I dropped the front down on jack stands 6 inches lower than the body, then lowered the rear of the pan onto stands.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Look at those Wolf Parts bumper mounts! They are not buckling like the Autocraft ones. Same amount of weight!
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Down on the cart and out from under the body. Finally the body and pan are separate pieces!
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Check this out. Bug upside down!
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Here is a short video of me rolling the Bug around for the first time! I squirted some silicon lubricant in the pivots to make the squeaking go away!

Link

Enjoy!
