That’s an amazing tent. Wonder why they included it with a ruby red bus? |
Probably because it was the next one on the stack. I have not seen any real coordination of tent colors with bus colors, or even with tent bag colors with the tent in the bag or the color of the bus. It seems to be just random. _________________ .

Funny I had this same conversation yesterday about this tent and VW in general. They used whatever they had laying around. |

I wonder if her SO33 was a tourist edition bus. If you picked it up at Wiedenbrück you could order whatever you wanted.
Either way great story, thanks for sharing. _________________ RPM=(MPH*336* (R&P*4th*1.26))/Tire Diameter in inches |

That is a strong possibility. Those colors have not been seen on any other tent as far as I know. Also, by 1963 most tents were yellow and grey.
If you were picking up a bus at Westfalia, you could special request anything. Ruby red is a pretty rare color for a Westy.
I have seen plenty of tents that totally clashed with the colors of their bus, and this is no exception. _________________ .

It would be great to find out the fate of this bus and to see the m-code plate.
All I know about this particular fate of this bus is that Brandy was living by the Bucket of Blood in Virginia City NV when she sold the bus around 1998 to quote her "some guys from California". Whoever bought it took it to BOR in 2001 where Campingbox took the pictures of it. I borrowed the pics from his gallery. I have no clue of its fate past that.
If the bus looks familiar and or you know its fate, please feel free to chime in. I can give the current owner what history I know about it. |

It looks like I misspoke. Merz has a blue and yellow tent with the same color tent bag as the tent I posted pics of. I was told there is also parts of a third blue and yellow tent.
From Merz gallery:
Anyone have pics of the bus that the tent above came from? |

I believe there are 3 Blue/Yellow tents that have been found. The one Merz has had an interesting story that I only heard a few tidbits about.
Westfalia also made some solid color tents in white/beige/grey/solid green for various uses (Red Cross, Police, etc.). _________________ RPM=(MPH*336* (R&P*4th*1.26))/Tire Diameter in inches |

This blue & yellow tent was allegedly stolen from a woman who lives in Oregon by a guy who goes by many names. At the time I believe he was pretending to help her sell it.
The tent was actually offered to me first, and I said I’d take it. Then the seller said I could only get it if I took the bus too. I said I’d take that as well, but the seller stopped communicating with me. I didn’t know at the time it was stolen, and I feel like I dodged a bullet. I expect the seller wanted to get the bus further away from him (I was 200 miles away from him at the time). Mark then bought it, was informed it was hot while he had it, and instead of doing the right thing and returning the bus he sold it for a quick profit and smuggled it out of the country. He kept the tent and as far as I know still owns it. I wonder how you can even enjoy having something like that? Shady!

Her posts are on page 2.
The lady said she had no title, but had owned the bus for many years. When she handed the bus to that guy she had no title and no possession of the bus.
If any of you reading this have buses without titles, get that squared away ASAP. There was another very similar situation with a barndoor Kombi that was stolen recently from a longtime SF Bay Area bus enthusiast. The guy who bought it refused to return it, even after the owner offered to compensate him.
There is a thumbnail of the So-23 here,

Maybe Everett can supply the images which were posted in the ad. |

wow there's some shady people in this world. Thank you for shedding some light on the background.
Everett: Is it possible to add to this thread the pictures of the third blue and yellow tent from the seller's ad (posted above) as well as pictures from the ad of the SO23 that was stolen that the MM tent came out of? |

Follow up regarding the Blue and Yellow tent: Here is a close up of the tent bag that came with the tent.
Looks very similar to MM's tent bag. Maybe his is faded?
Here is the tent I mentioned earlier in this thread set up with Daniel's SO35

Beautiful bus and tent. The two tent bags you reference are similar style but definitely different patterns to my eye. |

I still like my Green & White tent. However, I do admit that the Blue & Yellow looks nice also! _________________ 58 PGSG Westfalia

Looks turquoise green in the pic? Other green ones are I have seen are darker. Or is it the angle? Nice set up! |

The white has yellowed a bit compared to this one (or maybe its just a different variation):
Love me some Westy's tents, amazing these things survived all this time. _________________ RPM=(MPH*336* (R&P*4th*1.26))/Tire Diameter in inches |
