It’s a nice car, but auto stick cars havent done that well on BAT. I can see it not making reserve. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

It really is nice!
Can someone educate me regarding the rubber inserts on the uprights front rear bumpers? Aftermarket?
When and why did the idea of installing the extra fuel filter in the engine bay happen?
I had a rant about this earlier today with a fellow Ghia enthusiast.
Normally there's a fuel sock in the tank and another filter at the inlet of the stock fuel pump. Was this extra filter a VW technical directive?
I know the fuel systems get old and dirty and a secondary filter makes sense. They need to be installed underneath where the hardline exits to the soft line. I guess it's just a lazy mechanic, but they should know better. _________________ "Depression is a malfunction of the instrument we use to determine reality.”

A set of 71 bumpers I used to have had those rubber bumper inserts. They were very old and dried. Definitely looked the same vintage of the bumpers. I couldn’t tell if the were after market or dealer installed. They had carriage bolts impregnated into the rubber. They required a couple of holes to be drilled in each bumper guard. The holes in the bumper guards definitely didn’t seem factory. LOL!

I believe you are correct. Seems to be the same one.
BAT makes you delete any outside advertising before it goes to auction. The ad was deleted about a month ago. It takes awhile for BAT to get the auctions ready to go live.
He might get close to his Samba price. _________________ "Depression is a malfunction of the instrument we use to determine reality.”

I like the car and it's got a lot going for it, but I can't imagine anyone paying $35K for this car. What I'm seeing on BAT is that prices are just all over the place. The green 68 coupe with a "saddle" color interior (so not a KG look) just sold for $22,500. From one auction to the next, there's not much reason to support why one car goes over value and another goes for way less! go figure. _________________ Marc

$22,500
I’d be thrilled to get that if I were the seller
Then this comment that solidifies that some are out of touch with reality.
“ Wow…this car is going to sell for half of what i thought?…really?…i hope there is a reserve on this of at least 25k…don’t settle for opportunists…the economics of this auction system are in a weird place…be patient…”
The commenter thinks it’s a $50k Ghia _________________ "Depression is a malfunction of the instrument we use to determine reality.”

Not the first time I've seen clueless comments like this on BaT. I'm pretty sure that some are placed by shills for the seller...especially 'cause they're usually among the first to appear after an auction goes live.
That crappy '66 coupe with the Beetle headlights had 'em too: "A lot to like here…. Color, Motor, Stance/Suspension, all the nice noticeable upgrades and all the little understated adders. I’ve never been much of a VW fan, but this one is definitely causing me to rethink that. Nicely done!"
And "SO freaking COOL!" _________________ '63 Ragtop (current)

That car is rusty as hell.
There is salt rot in the junction between the inner fender and inner nose, the lower nose, above the headlights, lower fenders…the only thing going for it is the clean pans and the original interior. The car would be very expensive to restore so it’s best that whoever buys it is someone who doesn’t mind driving it as is. It for sure is not worth $35k unless of course someone pays $35k… _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

So…
The seller says they are not “tech savvy” enough to post a driving video.
How does anyone know if it actually runs _________________ "Depression is a malfunction of the instrument we use to determine reality.”

That's pretty good considering they didn't offer a video confirming it runs or drives. _________________ "Depression is a malfunction of the instrument we use to determine reality.”

People have been selling cars on Ebay, Randy's & Brendon's site as well as the one here at Samba without any video, nothing new or a deal breaker. _________________ Pres. Rivercity VW Club www.rcvwclub.org

Not sure why it didn’t break $20k. Car was done on the cheap and the colors were blah but that hasn’t stopped BAT bidders from spending more than that in the past. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

If I had to guess it would be the color and the later seats. Obviously just my opinion but one thing I hate on VW's is a "forced" vintage look and this color screams that. You see it on 50's American iron and to me it just looks cheap and tacky. Then add in the high back seats and it ruins the car completely for me. The original color, or at least a better one, and a correct interior may have pushed this car over the $20k mark. Again, just my opinion and others may think differently about it. _________________ Sebastian Gaeta
