Hey there! First post
I've just pulled the door panel on my '03 EVC in order to fix a locking issue, and noticed these honeycomb / hexagon patterned mats adhered to the inside. Would anyone happen to know what these are/their purpose? I'm wondering if I should take them off to replace with something like kilmat for sound dampening purposes. Any info at all is greatly appreciated!

Welcome. And to answer your question the purpose of those is to quiet the door down. Without it they would be much louder. I covered mine and then stuffed insulation into the door. |

As best goes it’s this but this is for high end builds:

I just stuffed your typical heavy recycled stuff foam in wherever I could. My main purpose was to absorb sound more than insulate. |
