I use step up and step down Boost/buck converters and some step up step down buck boost converters, for speed controlling 24v fans. |

My Solution:
- the cost/effort of solar+batteries+controllers
is hardly practical for charging ebikes. If you're
out all day riding, how you gonna charge at the
end of the day? At what cost?
- Generators Suck !!!! charge times = 3-6 Hours.
Don't you be camping next to me, with your lame-ass
"oh, dude, I need to charge my ebike batteries for five hours".
- In the End, I opted to buy a second bike battery.
I rarely camp in one spot more than four days,
the two batteries provide enough power (but it's all
about How Much Power do you Need?)
really using the power, it's 1 battery per day.
if cruising/strolling around, about 4x more range. _________________ 1990 Westy Full Camper |

Buy two batteries and recharge the one with an inverter, 100 watt solar and a house battery to be the accumulator and it will take two ish days. One in the Southwest. 200 watt of solar and Bob's your uncle.

That's the Catch-
two days to charge is too much.
Plus, you gotta charge in the sun all day.
Gotta be roof mounted to prevent
tweaker theft while you're out riding. _________________ 1990 Westy Full Camper |

When we went camping with our EMTBs we stayed at campground part of the time to recharge. Plan to get second batteries, great for extra long rides anyway.
Would be nice to charge off solar for long boondock camping. The whole idea of a generator makes me break out in hives.
There are folks doing it. I'm not good enough at electrical to know whether this is a good idea or not; the damm batteries are too expensive to mess with their health.

ppm--Nobody says this is not cheap or like it used to be when coal powered power plants spewing out black smoke out wasn't considered an issue. Thing are definitely gonna change and we have to get used to the fact that fat and cushy living will be different.
So park in the sun, already. "Gotta be roof mounted to prevent
tweaker theft while you're out riding." And?
The spare batteries are locked inside your car. If you spend enough money, you can ride all you want.
Or, just get a gas powered bike and be done with it.

yes.
I have a friend who has $$$$$ solar panels.
Every frickin 1/2 hour, he has to move the
panels to keep them in 'optimal sunlight'.
When we hike/bike, he leaves them out.
Total Tweeker Candy. Easy Grab and Go.
Generator thefts are increasingly common
here in CA campgrounds. Don't leave anything
out unattended and expect to see it hours later.
I've stopped charging my ebike batteries in
campground bathrooms (the only source of 110V
in the camp) due to theft concerns.
A second battery was a good solution,
and so far has worked well for 2-4 day camps. _________________ 1990 Westy Full Camper |
