This is a new one for me. I had a recent rebuild of the trans. As soon as I switched on the key the rear locker indicator lit up. Hmm. I unplugged the switch and the light went off. OK. Then, I jacked up the rig to see if it was locked. Nope. I removed the actuator, just to be sure. Next, I removed the switch from the trans. Teested it. Sure enough, the switch itested closed. The plunger moves freely on the switch but the continuity remains across the terminals. I've seen switches fail but I've never seen this type of switch fail closed. I know it happens but it's a first for me.
Is there something else that I might be miising. It's two wires so I cant see how that's might be.
Thanks, Gang. |

I found cleaning the switches by spraying around the plunger to get up inside with carb/manifold cleaner may help. Used this on VW and Subaru switches with success. Yes odd to see it failed closed. _________________ Click to view image |

Maybe the plastic part of the switch got knocked off during transport and the shipper “reassembled it”. But the little spring that holds the switch contactor apart went bye-bye. I can’t imagine any other way it could fail. Does the area where the plastic portion is “crimped” look like it was “disturbed” recently ?
I think those switches are NLA. |
