My first Bay 1970 Montana Red.
As received
It runs dirves, stops!
I don't care for tires on front. I was happy when I took off the tire and found it had the OG emblem mounting holes. I went back and forth about trying to get the steel insert out but, ended up just using some trim adhesive to secure emblem. It now has its badge of honor.
The stock 14" wheels and tires good shape but, i like trying different wheels.
I had these in stock and think they look good.
I sourced these 15" spilt bus wheels and went with 215/75/15 tires. Painted them and ready to go.
Roof rack came with bus, all in parts. Had to find corners and rails. Sanded stained and got a nice rack!
I picked up hitch from Jeramey Rock and installed so, I can transport my bikes. Also added the jail bars.
It stopped ok, not that great.
CSP disc brake upgrade. Took my 1/2 of Sunday to install
Seat stands were all cracked and rotten, replaced these. I want to recover seat sometime soon.
That it for now. I sourced a new windshield and need to fix some rust around and my up coming project. Also been working some other minor stuff. |

Wow, such a nice bus and in exceptional condition.
Just be sure to attend to the basics before you get into more bling:

Thanks for the nice comments , I am pretty happy with it.
Here is the engine. Stock and points, runs decent. I have plans for new engine and tranny.
Went a for bike ride after work so, I can eat to much turkey tomorrow. I like having the bus for riding and hanging out afterward
I knocked this out tonight. New sway bar. I read the Ratwell page and didn't even take that long to get the old one off and new one on. Bus moves up and down smooth, but no rock side to side. I'll take it for test drive tomorrow

What are those hoses on the left hand side? For an air conditioner? And do I see a double pulley on the crank? _________________ Larry in OB

They look very much like the typical Dealer-installed supply and return refrigerant hoses for an air conditioning system. My bet this bus had the under-dash model evaporator. The small pulley on the crankshaft would likely be to drive the A/C compressor. |

Original tires were 'C' rated so don't overload it. |

And that's a great looking bus! I didn't like the mag look of the second set of wheels you put on, but the wide 5's are handsome and the front disc brakes are a kick in the pants! Nice work!
I think those are the tires that should do well on my truck, if I ever get off my ass and do something about it. |

Doesn't Load Range D surpass Range C? |

Really happy with the upgraded sway bar. Much better on hiway, feels more planted and doesn't get blown around like before. You can still feel big rigs pass you but corrects itself nicely. I definitely feel worth the upgrade.
Install easy I soaked the old clamps with PB blaster and wire wheeled and then used flat chisel to get them off. New bar went on easy with T clamps and mini impact. I did had to use about 1/2" longer bolts.

I decided to give seat covering a try. My seats were not terrible, but had a few rips and broken spring. I used some of the tips I read on here, and would add one. Have some wire on hand like bailing wire but not as thick. It's handy to pull some areas tight. My hands and fingers are shot and cut. A lot of tugging , stretching and pulling. Here are pics also put new seat pads and a lot firmer now.
I thought driver was easier than passenger side, maybe because I did passenger side first.
Old seat
Welded broken spring
Not perfect but looks better. Driver looks good, it's just shadow in this pic.

Is that adjustable drag link the right part? I don’t remember having adjustment there. _________________ .ssS! |

I replaced the old ratty front panels with new
ABS panels and new speakers. Turned out nice and clean.
Its the little things that annoy me. I fixed passenger side door with new busing and no more pop, pop sound. Still dealing with driver side.
