online communities are odd but real, just like families! i'm laid up with a bum foot, my wife having some brief covid booster yucks i didn't experience. very quiet, the stuff with the kids happens on Saturday, modern schedules wait not for tradition.

been reading Bob Hoover's essays while laid up.... always entertaining, mostly informative, sometimes uff ta.

Bob was a participant in the original vanagon@lenti list run by Gerry Skerbitz. was an aircooled guy but had lots to contribute. was monitoring during Grendel's run up to Inuvik back in the day. was pretty cool to recieve the reports as he'd post them enroute. talented guy, articulate, uneducated, brilliant.

I’m very thankful for this community. I rejoined it recently after stepping away from bricks for 20 years. I started on the Vanagon Mailing List Server (@ gerry.vanagon.com) listserv (anyone still on there?).

vanagon@lenti predated @gerry by a few years.... on them both.

This format is so much better at searching for information. The old listserves were good in their day but no one searched anything it seemed.

funny how @lenti, @gerry, and SAMBA have by and large remained civil. back in the day, Derek Drew posted an 'evolution of the listserve' which detailed the various stages of a listserve from new found wisdom to bitter condescension. the Vanagon lists have avoided this for the most part. so truly, Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Turkey Day, everybody!

I too started on the Vanagon listserv a long, long time ago. I haven't signed in for ten or fifteen years but my email still gets the occasional notification when Gerry's down. Kinda nice to know its still alive. Cool

Good point. But, this is no accident. It requires both a good community and LOTS of continuous hard work and sometimes very difficult decisions by the admins behind the scenes.

Please know how thankful we are, TheSamba admins, for all the work you've done keeping this such a quality place over the years!

i whole-heartedly concur! Kamz and Dave do a great job keeping order in a society always on the brink of chaos. their constant vigilance, a burden unto itself, along with the decisions that must come, another burden of responsibility. very much appreciated.
