Well....have not gotten a lot done this past few weeks.
I was working on mount points/tabs and such last time I posted.
I did get a lot of those little things tack welded to the tube frame and the tab mounts underneath that attach to the front beam fabbed and tacked in place.
My girlie got me seat covers for the poly seats for father's day.
And some whatnots from ebay.
Thinking I am gonna try to finish the front half of the car and turn it around and start the big build on the rear fiberglass.
So now while I have the front torsion spring disconnected and can freely move the suspension I cut the front tire clearance in the body.
I had already cut 4" or more out of the wheel arches just to get the body on.
Drop spindles, adjusters, and a pie cut, plus an inch or so of body drop (moved Napoleon hat), not to mention dropped floor boards.........all have me really tight on room.
The tires are only 23 inch diameter, but are 205 wide.
A lot more cutting.

So those 70's flairs are completely gone.
Now to create a wide body look.
Hacked up some fiberglass flairs.
Of course all this will be glassed in (not screwed to the body) and smoothed out.
So it looks like this.....and had about 2-1/2" of travel and turns.

Soo awesome, most of us can only dream about making the car fit the wheels. Closest I was able to get was hacking off ~2.5" from the extreemly far out front fender flairs on my Mini-Camaro. But then, it made the opening (which was already too big) even wider! So I glass'd in a little lip to close it back down some.
Edit - Oops, dream comment already made a few posts back by Opee (he's the guy who has built exhaust systems most of us can only dream about). |

Well that ain't too bad.....if you were to hack the fenders out of it and remake it......well then it would not have a Camero look.
Now mine is not a look alike ....... So I'm remaking it in my image.....lol
Ok....so
Splitter or No?
I thought it would be cool......but I am iffy about it....,ain't quite as cool as imagined.
Looking at air dam ideas now.

I pretty much already broke its Camaro look, hated the way its hood would try to lift and take flight at highway speed.
Yours is already nicely aerodynamic, but she really does need something under that shark-like nose. I'd be tempted to give it some teeth, a-la Jaws! |

The splitter is cool but just a bit to long? Not sure, iffy is a good adjective but I don’t think it’s far off. Tweak it and play with it a bit. I see sharpie lines on it that are in a good direction.
This car is sooo cool. _________________ 1979 Bug project |

That would be cartoonist.....exhaust ports would be above "hood" level.
Besides....I don't have any Mopar stuff anymore.
Never had a "real" hemi anyway.
Did have a stroked iron block RB full of concrete and with the lugs welded in the cam galley to fit them loonymum elephant heads. _________________

Spit top spring with the load biased on the top.
Nowhere near as stiff as I expected.

Fender extensions fiberglassed to the body.
Ground in the exterior and layered it in today.
Maybe tomorrow flip it and grind inside in and heavily layer it in.

After you extend it, is the rear body gonna tilt or be removable? Chassis is looking good. _________________ Pres. Rivercity VW Club www.rcvwclub.org

And I still gotta make the rear sub frame that holds the tail of trans and radiator. _________________
