https://www.facebook.com/VCOT81/photos/a.151711118215033/4570196766366424/ -Volkswagen Club Of Tidewater
· (I was at this gathering 3 years ago- it's a 5-star event!)
DUBS ON THE RIVER IN SEPTEMBER: a fun-filled family-oriented weekend. Once again we will be camping on the banks of the Rappahannock River. Event will start on Friday the 24th of September through Sunday the 26th. Remember this is camping in the rough. There will be a porta pot available but bring what you need the nearest store is over 15 miles away. There will of course be a corn hole, kayaking, fishing, swimming and lounging on the river (bring your own boat- or at least an innertube). There will be a fire pit to gather around in the evenings. We know there are those of you who camp with your pets; we ask that if you bring pets that you keep them on a leash at all times. The neighbors have dogs and we need to be respectful of those who live here as well as fellow campers. Please let us know if you plan on attending. The address is 1308 Mothershead Neck Rd. Farnham, Va. 22460. [under 2 1/2 hours from the beltway] |

Would anyone like to do a meet up next weekend? Maybe a cars and coffee? Kates stopped in 2020, but I don't know now. I think dulles has a cars and coffee in front of Dunkin as well. Or we could have our own at a coffee shop or park central to us. |

I hiked Billy Goat Trail A this morning and saw a group of Porsche's on 495. They were definitely going to Katie's. _________________ '87 Syncro

I am seriously considering making a week of traveling to, enjoying, traveling from Buses on the Canal next year, from Asheville.
I have to plan my work leave way in advance.
Anybody know if this will most likely be happening and if so which weekend?
Thanks, I know this is way too far in advance for most people/events. _________________ 1991 Vanagon GL 2.1 AT Westfauxlia. "Frankie" Totaled https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=764510&highlight=carnage

I am not too sure when it will be, but I plan on attending as many as I can next year. My dogs are both 11 and we decided to forgo overseas travel to do more US based where we can take them. So unless something catastrophic happens next year I am in. |

Whether it be up from Asheville (where I grew up in the '50s-- still recall the family that moved in from Conn with the first VW bug to move into town, I think in '56) or just from here in the DC 'burbs, I'd like to request that the MD sponsors move the date to mid-to-late "Oct. The first year- 2020- I was there, and we got lucky with a real warm spell, which I guess (missed it) didn't happen this year. Anyhow, with the leaves changing a couple of weeks earlier, why not schedule the 20-something of Oct.? |

Is there a reason for doing it that late into the fall? Being really comfortable pretty much all the time on a weekend event seems worth a little advance of the dates-- why not? |

Thank you for the update! I will go ahead and plan on it, if it happens other days or not at all, I like myself (and my traveling partner- a lot-) and we'll have a great time doing whatever we do.
Again, thanks for putting the effort into organizing an event. I've been there and it's fun, but a lot of work. _________________ 1991 Vanagon GL 2.1 AT Westfauxlia. "Frankie" Totaled https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=764510&highlight=carnage

Everyone,
Saturday June 4, 2022 once again I am hosting a reunion of the NCAVWC (National Capitol Area VW Club) which was very active in the 70's-90's. We are also opening this up to any interested VW folks even if you were not members of the club back in the day.
We will be gathering in my back yard, like we did the other event here, and have a cookout during the afternoon. We last did this in 2013 and 2017 and it was good to see old friends. Event is from 12-6pm (no camping over, sorry).
Let me know if you want to make it.
I can PM you my address.
Here are the details:
Time: Noon to 3:00 PM for eating & 3:00 to 6:00 PM for BS’ing
Menu: Hamburgers, hot dogs, snacks, salad and dessert. Attendees are asked to bring snacks, salads, desserts and beverages.
Cost: $7 donation per person to defray cost for the burgers, dogs & rolls
Vehicles: Bring whatever you have that you think others would enjoy seeing. Display in back yard if grass isn’t wet.

Dave O's event inspired me to see if the Railroad Days at Brunswick is back on that town's fall schedule-- where we had a *mostly) van campout yearly, before the Covid interruption, typically in sync with the Railroad festival. It's a town festival, w/an old steam train running for rides, and a local museum of those early trains. Yes, it's back!-It's planned for Oct 1st and 2nd, about the timing of the pre shut-down days. Twice we've had our Brunswick campground weekend in early Nov, and had mixed luck with the weather- once near record warm for the date, the other more realistically chilly. So my point: whoever is going to put out the call for that site along the Potomac, I hope they'll take advantage of the earlier date and resume the synchronization of the town festival and ours. |
