FOUND IT!

It was under several layers of paint and hidden behind the seat belt latch.

Not much to say. The number was right where it should have been, stamped directly into the tunnel, just ahead of the opening for the shift linkage.

I didn't see it earlier because the seatbelt latches were hiding it. A few strokes with a wire brush were enough to show it.

The cut was made about 1 1/2" behind the parking brake handle. The chassis serial number which is what is used as the VIN is 2" forward of the shift coupling access hole. It should be intact
