Hello All,
Greetings from Portugal to all the VW fans.
Despite being an VW enthusiast and having other classics to enjoy on my free time, I got in my mind that I would like to do something different with the Bug… and you know how things are when we get some idea “stuck” in our head. 😊
Since I have a 44 Ford GPW, I would like to do something military but not any copy or recreation of the war time cars like the 82. So I did a marked search and got myself 54 Oval to start my project called “Oval X”.
X because it´s raised with some militaty tyres and the goal is to build something that we can use it without fear or concern if something gets broke or damaged.. So to say that for the last year I have being digging with all kind of troubles that we face when we start to restore and adapt to something.
I share bellow the starting point and how it´s now!
For more details you can check my insta goyri_workshop
Regards,
Christophe |

"X"'s progress looks excellent! The matt gold/beige color reminds me of a desert scout car. I see the reduction gears on the rear axle to raise your ground clearance. What are you using at the front to raise the suspension? Will you keep the 36 hp engine for "period correctness" or will you fit a later engine such as a 1600 cc single-port to reach slightly higher speeds? When do you think you'll be ready to mount the body to the chassis? |

Thank you Rome for your feedback
In the 80´s my father restored a Willys MB desert color so always enjoyed that color tone. My beetle color was pigment adjusted to match a mix of ideias like desert color/ matte/ Beije/Brown/ Olive Drab ..everything that i Like
The engine is a H block raised to 1600cc. single port. My thinking was to stay with a easy tune carb and low maintenance
I also share my corner spot

Will you be installing a different exhaust so that the two pipes don't interfere with the bottom edge of your rear apron?
In this photo, your left front fender "looks" like one from a '51/'52 that has the longer length from the quarter panel down to the wheel opening. Is that a BBT repro? The distinct "teardrop" shape of the fenders coming rearwards off the headlamp bowls also look like from the split window era.

Yes, my thinking is to install a central pipe similar to this
maybe I will have to modify the exhaust to avoid colision with the body. Once the body is into place, i will take at this

Your eyes are very well calibrated. There are several parts in my car that came from a Zwitter or even a Split |

WOW! Loving those pictures along the coast line! Plus, how cool to drive on the beach! Not here. The man allows no one in civilian clothing to drive on the sand! Might be a good thing on second thought. But it would still be really cool!
