Has anyone ever figured out how to remove the stock vinyl from door cards? I've got a sliding door panel where the cardboard is wrecked but the vinyl is still serviceable, but that stuff is glued on HARD.
I know it's easy enough to just wrap a new card with new vinyl but I'd like to salvage the old vinyl if possible for the stock look, as the original has cloth trim and texture unlike smooth new vinyl.
It would be so easy to wreck that vinyl, so wondering if someone has had success getting it off? |

I too am in this situation. With mine the vinyl portion comes up ok with a little patience and prodding. If yours is worse, could use some Goof-Off, GooGone, or Lift-Off to help dissolve the glue.
Where I've run into issues is where the velour fabric insert is glued to the panel. The glue is stronger than the fabric. One day soon I'll get it back out and with a straight-end "Chisel" 1/2" Exacto blade try to undermine the wood panel allowing the fabric and glue to come up with a little wood attached. So far, this method worked for an inch or so, but is just a theory for complete removal.
Blade like this:

Exactly. Not sure what they did there, but damn, it's near impossible to get off. Bringing some of the cardboard with it is probably inevitable. I just didn't want to spend days doing this if at all possible. |

Havenčt tried this myself, but have you tried steam? I wonder if it would melt the vinyl though. _________________ '90 Little Blue Truck, 2WD auto, FAS GenV 2.0 NA (AVH) |

The vinyl has been heat pressure welded to the masonite. The only way to get it off is to destroy the masonite on the back and then carefully tease away the last of it to get down to the vinyl. It is NOT possible to remove it from the front without trashing the vinyl. I know because I have tried several times with different T3s over the years.
