I have done research on the inline blower for the defrosters and saw how some can melt down. My defrosters work in a fashion and I get heat but I have a problem with the middle of the windshield fogging up.

So - I am taking a page from the ambulance version of the bus and have come up with this solution. I will see how well it works this winter. I chose a this style and then I can clamp it to the hand grip or even open my glove box door and clamp it there. It is variable speed too! I also mounted a 12v "accessory" outlet in my glove box instead of drilling holes in my dash. It is a plastic replacement, so it was easy to do.

Also wanted something that wasn't permanent so I can store it in the summer.

That should work.
Have you tried the clear plastic deflectors to clip to the corner outlets? That might give the air a little more "reach", too.

I had not see those but I hadn't looked for them either. Thanks for the tip!

Vintage can be pricey!

But it wouldn't be too hard to buy a piece of lexan and cut it to fit. Maybe prototype with a spring clip holding it until you size and shape it best.

The last Bug I drove was a '65 in the mid 1980's in N.H., in the Winter I hooked a shop-vac type hose to the heater outlet that comes out under the back seat, ran it up between the seats, and used a coat hanger hooked to the grab handle to hold it pointed towards the windshield in the middle, worked well, I could also unhook it and put it under my coat from the bottom. I don't drive my acvws in the salty Winter anymore, back then there was no choice.... Sad
