Nice work on the decklid spring attachment repair.
This and the preceding posts should be a stickie by themselves.

There are so many beetles that need this area repaired.
Yet no one has shown how it's done.

looks like there is a lot of stress on the metal when the spring is loaded in open position, which end up cracking the metal itself and brakes the original spot weld.

with what I have done I should not more have this issue.

i will finally be able to keep the hood open on its own and without the need of a "dance pole" Smile.

I was able to validate the decklid stays now in open position, yeah !!:

I was lucky to find an original spring that was painted black already, and fits with the rest of the car.

while the side of the re-inforcement rail looked good, the underside was rusted on about 22 inches length

it has been a pain to cut and take the right measurement to redo the inner "v" shape piece like original.

now I am almost ready to weld the new fabricated pieces back in place.

thanks !!, I still have a good amont of work to do on the reinforcement rails, but I am on the right pass. really looking to finish that work.

After that I won't have much left to do, a small repair on the rear left fender, and replace one stripped nut for the bumper bumper.

This is some of, if not the best, metal work I have ever seen in my life time.

Fantastic work. With an attention to detail far and above, body work professionals.

You really have talent! Keep up the great work.

Hopefully we can see your car at a few shows this coming summer season.

thanks for the comment very pleased to read this type of comment considering that it is my 1st restoration, and 2 years ago I did not know how to weld and shape a piece of metal.
