- I painted new decklid prop, mirror arm, and mirror clamps.
- I ordered a new decklid prop tab. Looking for a local welder Very Happy
- I didn't want to cover the old JUN and 1974 registration stickers so I cut some frame tabs. Not too sure if I like it. I might change it.
- Oh, and I switched the Hayward frame for another one. More legible.
- I stripped the driver cargo door bottoms
- And a cool reflection in my friend's hubcap
- And other glamour shots for fun
- Preparing my mind to start prepping the lower portions to spray paint

I only have one month/year tab on my Bus since it's AZ but I put it on the bottom.
I feel like it fits better there.
I don't have a great pic of the tag but you can sort of see it here:

Thanks! I collect Hayward VW crap. And thanks for the photo and suggestion to hang sticker on bottom.

So, a previous owner of my bus mailed me this magnet. He found it in the bus when he had it. I’m in love. I can’t wait to uncover the business name. You can see some of the letters coming through.

You're doing a great job on the panel.

I love the timewarp experience you get from looking at the before and after pictures of the paint stripping process. From that synthetic bling bling purple to the rich patina look of the faded Dove blue. I reckon you might end up with up to 70% original paint. Well done!
Maybe you can get the logo's brought back the way they did on this bus; http://www.dannymckennasgarage.com/vw-type-2-t1 (The text states it's a barndoor, while its a pressed bumper Combi, albeit a very nice one imo.)

It's a shame the text hasn't been corrected to reflect it's not a barndoor. It's a nice bus, but I immediately call into question any technical information about it since the most basic part is described incorrectly.

Just a few noteworthy things:
- Took all handles off to have 1 key made to open all.
- I started 'collecting' blue Pepsi coolers cause they match the bus.
- Took the overheard cardboard panels down to clean and repair (not sure how I'm going to repair yet)
- Went to a local show. Pretty cool. Had fun.
- Macho sitting with the bus.

- Had a good time at the Norcal Bus Fest 16 and the Norcal Aircooled Group monthly meetup.
- Installed my handles and they all use the same key now.
- I had to clean out the cargo door rod holes, and also had to fish some extra parts out of a cargo door latch so that the handle could rotate correctly and lock. (VW always putting extra parts in mechanisms Very Happy . Seems to be working fine)

3 VW events in 3 days. Mark Merrill's VW Open House, Red Barn VW Swap Meet, and Kelley Park. I left the house Friday morning, returned home Sunday evening.
- Back of bus made the HOTVW's fb page.
- My amigo gave me the license plate light lens I've been looking for.
- I had to park bus where I could see it from hotel room, plus the wheel boot.
- Slept in bus first night, hotel second night.
- A few hundred miles with no issues - it was a good weekend.

Update, photo heavy.
- Started stripping the roof. It's been a beast! Clearcoat is thick.
- I forgot my Bus Stop sign at Kelley Park and it was gone when I went back. I checked with staff and event folks- no luck.
- Installed license plate light lens.
- Brake light terminal cardboard finally gave-way so I temp fixed with some Steel Stick (sorry it's not fixed properly. One day I promise)
- Riveted a piece of aluminum to patch a hole in floor. I could feel the cold breeze when sleeping Very Happy
- I overfilled my gas tank and it leaked on garage floor cardboard when I got home. I let it cool down and drained about a gallon out. This could've gotten ugly.
- I bought the little cargo handle extender so that I can close my cargo door from inside.

- Drove bus to OCTO! About 900 miles roundtrip. 25 miles of it was on a tow truck!! Passenger reduction box pouring oil 25 miles away from OCTO. Lizard Motorsports fixed it in my swap space during the show. (He's a beast). Bearing was shredded. (I had a new bearing in my breakdown box)
- 2 months after losing a BUS STOP sign, Kelley Park folks FOUND it!!
- Halloween Decoration
- Found rear reflectors at OCTO
- Went to S.O.T.O. Meet in Carmichael, CA.

Up next: Replacing swing lever kit, inspecting all brakes, bearings, seals, and fresh air box rebuild, and maybe new seals for windshields and door windows. And hopefully making the trip to Buses By the Bridge in January. Wish me luck!

I took a break from stripping, but I'm back on it.
- Roof has been a beast. The clearcoat and shiny purple is like concrete.
- Installed the reflectors. My neighbor was able to weld a new post on one.
- Installed new felts in driver window frame and stripped it a little.
- A couple new AC Transit signs.
Looking for BBB in January!

Way cool to see this, I have known this bus for quite a few years, even worked on it a time or two for Mr. Bufton. It was a local staple seen all over Yreka for many years sitting out front of businesses after hours while he was inside cleaning them. He had some intricate wood shelving inside the back that housed his cleaning supplies, buckets, ladders, floor polisher, etc.
Great to see you enjoying it!

- I stripped my dash.
- Bought and sold some coolers.
- Windshield seals are falling apart Very Happy
- I was planning on going to Buses By the Bridge, but not going to make it.
- Looking forward to another OCTO in February Cool
