Bosch 010 update.
I installed the (restored) 010 and it didn't do very well, advance curve was all off. So here's what I found: 1st .035 gap at bottom of drive 2nd o-ring on shaft was all chewed up. 3rd wrong condenser, should be 1-237-330-067 not 1-237-330-086. 4th no fiber washer under one weight and the other was broken. 5th Phenolic slide plate missing piece and very dirty. 6th spring mount bent on both sides (probably why the advance curve was off). 7th no fiber washer on shaft under advance plate (this probably is why bottom of drive had .035 space). Bottom line is, I think this 010 was never restored only painted and was falsely advertised by John. My first response to John was I wanted to return it for a refund he said there was nothing wrong with the distributor. I contacted John today 1/13/16 and he said by me taking it apart I voided the warranty!

Don't even think about doing business with this guy.
Took over a year to get my motor.
Had to drive from Connecticut to California |

I recently came across an engine built by him, nothing but a rattle can rebuild. |

OK,
So this guy had a lot of distributors for sale. Posted 1 picture on the forum and his price along with other parts for sale.
I pm'ed him and asked what part numbers were included in the lot.
He replied with '010, BR8, '019.
I asked, are they complete? He replied that they were 95% COMPLETE.
I bit and sent the money via paypal. He complained that they paypal payment was on hold and that is when the red flags started to go off. I looked for him on thesamba and found his feedback ( i know I should have done this before).
I jumped the gun on what I thought was an amazing deal.
So, 1 week later they arrived. He told me shipping was $57 but it was only $18.
Out of the distributors he sent only 3 were complete, the rest were mostly empty bodies. Which of course you couldn't see in the pic he posted. Most had no badges or innards.
Contacted him and he said well you bought them as is, no refunds.
Placed a claim with paypal which of course he disputed. They just sided with me so hopefully will see my money back when they are returned.
I definitely jumped the gun trying to buy what I thought was a deal.
I figured it was worth it if they were mostly complete no matter what numbers they had. 3 out of the lot were complete. Most were just bare shells and useless.
added some photos
Picture from his ad.
questions about being complete.
literally the only complete ones.
Most looked like this

Ok, let us know what happens.
$18 seems really cheap for a package to hold all of those, was it some super cheap ground rate?
$57 seems super high though too.
He hasn't made 1000s of sales on here but maybe he means over his lifetime.
For his 3 ids listed, he's had 329 ads total. |
You can fit about 20 mechanical advance distributors safely into a $18 flat rate box. Maybe more or with vacuums if you don't pack them with any newspaper. |

I did think it was a more than great deal if they were 95% complete like he said. They weren't what he said they were.. That is all.
Overcharging for shipping was just topping on the cake. |

"95% of them are complete" ≠ "they are 95% complete"
the ad pic should have been enough to see that neither of those statements, regardless of how interpreted, are accurate anyway. _________________ thebucket: I invested in hoodride, now DBD won't return my call?

You are right. That is why I asked the question. I was told he would be including "a bunch" of extra parts. I figured that meant the parts were missing in the picture but would be added as loose parts.
I was told they were 95% complete. So that either means 18 out of 20 are complete, or 20/20 are 95% complete.
Either way that was not even close to the case. |
