Following up on that massively important addition I made.
I dont know what it is about these things, but I love them. Blumenvasen from Kafer Lab. Simple clean two bud popper flower holder.

I finished restoring this one. Interesting how they put them together. This stuff had to be expensive back in the day.

After having the hub caps restored and re-chromed, last thing to do is to paint the cents in a flat-satin muted black paint. Simple tape off and tracing with a sharp blade gets the trick done. Top it off with some NOS Trim Rings.

Jason,
Your hubcaps look great. Who re-chromed them and what did it cost per cap? What kind of shape were they in when you took them in?
Here in Phoenix, the shop that did a great job rechroming my 67 bugs bumpers laughed at me when I asked if he could rechrome my caps.
They said they don't re chrome hub caps because of the time it takes to straighten them out, etc.. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

I think it was California Chrome. Pedro get them done. Yes having decent items to plate is first priority. They wont bother if they need to be severly repaired. The one I did in the pic above is twice as heavy as one needing no work. I have two in my garage that didnt make the cut. The stripping process leaves little behind if they are crusty. _________________

I thought the little geyser was a nice touch. All you'd need is a rag, soak it a little and wipe all of the dust off. Very convenient. No spray can needed. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I seem to attract them. The amazing fuel blends we have here in San Diego I guess.

Well shit. I get things set in motion and have to stop and fix again. I went and got all the paperwork to register the notch and the day I take her out to get it inspected (not in the system) she acts up. Bad. The timing is off and that's an easy enough fix, but now the throw-out bearing howls and she's puking oil all over the place. All this in driving across Escondido.
So I'm pulling the motor and replacing the pushrod tubes and seals - the tubes are old. I'm going to switch the heads as well and change the case studs to accept later versions I have that look new. Still SP. Clutch and TO bearing and maybe main seal.
When I was 26, Id of had this done 10 times over.
Propped her up to get under easier.

Got the motor out and I didn't die Nobody like my redneck wood blocks because they looked like a stack or wood. Not knowing they are all screwed together making a block. I did that instead of buying another set of ramps. I don't like jack stands. I don't know how many times I almost killed myself under a VW with jack stands.
With the motor out, pulled apart, got the clutch off and the throw-out bering. Bought some longer head studs for the top row. The heads that are on this motor are the original 15OO SP 4Ohp early type. I swapped them for later 1600 SP type that are better, more developed and have more meat to cool. Something I wanted to do when I did the clean up before I left Seattle. Now its done. I'm half tempted to rebuild this whole thing, but I'm getting hitched Friday and on a plane to Honolulu Saturday and want this back in before I go. I replaced the push rod tubes as well.
Motor always ran well and is an original dome top 1500 S. Now maybe it will go, leak less and run better.

Nice work Jason. What is the advantage of the longer head studs? Is it just to accomodate the 1600 SP heads?
Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials!

Yes. The later heads have more to them then the early heads. Mostly more material right above the SP. _________________
