what are everyone's thoughts on these okrasa heads?
original seconds? factory blems? repro?
I have never heard of heads being sold which need so much machine work as these. there are not even any holes for the headstuds. something apears to be very wrong here.

It almost looks like machine work had begun before they were rejected
because of defective casting in the cooling fin area and they didn't make it back to the furnace.
Or maybe the fins really are okay and some guy at the foundry took a pair home in his lunch box so he could hop up his own engine? |

nice looking car and engine. since you have another okrasa, have you side by side compared these heads to other okrasa heads?
where did the heads come from?
any idea why they were not finished when they were produced? I have never heard of any unfinished heads being sold. _________________ .

I have seen NOS okrasa kits and NOS okrasa heads, but never machinework done to them. I do not see why Oettinger would ever sell such a product.
you should ask your friend where they came from. _________________ .

there has been rumor for some time that at least one if not two people (companies) had an effort going to reproduce okrasa heads.
Those unmachined heads may be NOS and original but I somehow wouldnt buy them with out first hand inspection. _________________ Sounding like a broken record as to why You should be measuring protein during harvest in order to better your agronomic practices. |

Richard Troy (Karmann Ghia fan in Oakland CA) had a line on a number of these heads a while back. Not sure where he found them, but I'm pretty sure they were found in Europe and were original, just unmachined. |

I heard a few years ago that there was a several dozen of these unfinished unmachined Okrasa heads in Belgium? But the cost to finish them was too high to make it worth while? I think they might still be sitting over there. Maybe they are rejects? Tim |

|
|
About 15 years ago, I was offered to buy (2) two pallets, 36"X42" stacked 10 heads high with these unmachined OKRASA heads!! The owner sent me several glossy 8X10 sized black and white photos of the heads!! I bought one pair to check /see what were they all about. When I recieved the heads, I compared them to several pairs of NOS 36hp Okrasa heads I already had and they "looked" just like any pair.
I took the un-machined heads to RIMCO, back in the day when Jim F. worked there. He was amazed to see them in un-machined condition to say the least. I first told him that someone overseas offered to sell me a couple of pallets of these un-machined Okrasa heads at a "pretty good" price. The next thing I told him, "something doesnt seem right". He agreed that "something" is probably wrong with them as well as the other batch. He agreed to test them and that he would get back to me when he found out the results. About 3 weeks later, I got the call! Sure enough, the aluminum was "way too soft" (contamination) as he put it. Im not a machinest but I got the "gist" of what he meant. Needless to say, I passed on the whole batch and just forgot about them....
15 years later, they RESURFACED again! Im sure they are the same ones....Too bad because even at $50 a piece, they were'nt worth the price to me at that time....Now, who knows... If I dont forget and if I can find the old black and white photos, I will scan them and post for you to see.........
Cheers! Mr. Okrasa www.imageevent.com/mrokrasa |

I think they are an attempt at reproduction.
I can't picture Okrasa letting that many defective heads with their logo on them get into the public's hands.
If they were finished and used, then failed.
It would ruin their reputation.
I believe they would have destroyed or melted them down and re-used the materials. _________________ The problem with reality is that there's no background music !
