Thanks guys! I think the iPhone trick will come in handy.
I’ve almost got my pan complete and rust repaired. This morning, I got the kick plate reinstalled. It was really bad on the bottom. My fix isn’t pretty, but it feels very strong and will be covered in the end. Thanks for looking!

Would someone help me understand what I’m looking at? I am putting the front end back together and the right side thrust washer is too big for the spindle slot. If I try the one for the left it fits correctly. Im guessing the washer is incorrect, or it’s entirely possible I am doing something wrong? If it’s the incorrect washer, this would explain the trashed bearing on that side.

Compare the two washers; are they identical?
Did you leave out a race or seal and now have a gap inside? |

It’s definitely bigger. For a different size spindle…. JBUGS has the same for type 1 66-79, type 3, thing and ghias I think. Then it’s different for earlier bugs and vanagons etc. Im pretty sure my bigger one is meant for something else. |

Thanks! Here is where I’m at. Front beam is reattached. New ball joints. Waiting on tie rod ends. Working on the front wheels.

Fixing the bottom of the rear kick plate is normal. Keep in mind that it gets covered in carpet, so it won't show. 
The floor pans look good though. Nice job on them.

I haven’t posted any updates recently. However, I’ve slowly been keeping at it. The pan is just about done and pretty much rolling. I had the transmission rebuilt locally. I’ve got the brake lines all installed and temporary wheels on it.
I’ve started stripping the paint and doing small things along the way. I goofed up an attempt to remove a broken bolt in the bumper bracket and punched through to the frunk…
Today I put the new padding and cover on the rear seat.
