$48k Shocked It almost doubled in the last 45 minutes. Fun to watch.

Ya it was a lot of action. Very cool too . If I ever decide to sell I will put it up directly into the official whine about vanagons thread.

I wish the seller posted videos. I would have loved to hear it.

That 3.3 is going to be negative towards the sale of the van, it can’t be registered in Ca and issues out if the box. I would think the seller is more minimizing the issues with that van.
Pull the engine and have the Trans fixed and put a realistic engine in it.

that 3.3 is a huge plus for me. i dislike the 2.2. and 2.5 Subaru engines, and i own a Subaru!

Yeah, it might be bad for the auction, but the two 3.3 Syncros I've ridden in were alpha dogs, fantastic in every way. The only thing I don't like about this one is the lack of protection.

+1

No mention of trans rebuilt in the description and just a casual mention in the comments. If that transmission is stock and has spent the last 74k miles behind 227 ft/lbs of torque, it has to be about ready to explode.

Gotta think if the trans was properly prepped for that motor, it would be a high dollar rebuild and be properly highlighted in the description.

I realize it will sell for a lot more, but given this has been owned for ten years and not some flip artist, I'm okay with it on many fronts. It's only at $6,100 at the time of my response. If it was in my wheel house, I would lay down a bid knowing I would need to put more money into it ... and I would probably still lose.

I have never bought a used car without needing to add more money. My best was buying a '65 Falcon for $125 and needing a tail light lens for $27 -- but it still needed something.

I wish it stayed at $6100. I would buy it and put my fresh trans in it.

My guess is $37k.

1985 Westfalia with a Zetec engine - original owner - looks clean and well cared for but with 282K miles. Lots of goodies installed over the years.

That 3.3 Syncro is now at $46,250 with a minute left.

EDIT: Didn't make reserve.

$46,750, and it didn't meet the reserve.

And sold for $30K - decent buy.

A couple more offerings that have made it to BaT recently for your consideration:

A 1983 1.9L Riviera - ~220K miles - RNM at $13,500
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1983-volkswagen-vanagon-camper-17/

and a 1982 factory 1.6 diesel with 88K miles that looks pretty clean - currently open for bidding and sitting at $8K:

Nice looking, but a little crusty underneath. Need many more photos of the frame and running gear.

A lovely van, but kinda a shame that it isn't 4x4.
