Dear Ria Dear Jochen
Again sincere holiday
greetings from Innsbruck.
Today it’s raining, unfortunately!
I am sitting in the ‘Hofgarten’ -café with mom.
It is quite beautiful here. But we
are looking forward to heading home.
Again many greetings
Daddy and Mom.

Didn’t even mention the Barndoor Deluxe?

I just can't stop staring at those pics, really ! The eye for detail is overwhelming.
The house in the rear with one of the kitchen window vents open, and then look at the mirror image of another beetle in the shiny Heb quarter panel. hubcap logo right side up and even hiding his own mirror image in a tree.
What an amazing photographer !

It looks like they tossed the middle seat already so they could haul around a little basket, which he is loading now

Very cool pic, but where is that license plate from ? certainly not a US state, missing the state name and issue date.
I can only make out American cars in the background, Shoebox Fords, Styleline Chevy aso. Has this pic been taken in the US ? ( Also an AA(A)? badge on the front bumper).
Or maybe this pic was taken in Cuba or similar ? bus is LHD but has an accessory 2nd pssgr mirror. maybe a hint that this is from a left lane country like NZ maybe?

Top detailed picture 👏

That’s a UK AA badge
Plates look very much like Swedish plates…
Maybe this Sunroof Standard was doing a bit of a world tour?

Was thinking that too, but the numbers look quite different from the usual old Swedish font.
I observed the wings or crown on top of the AA badge as well, maybe some other Commonwealth country ?

that's not a crown but a winged wheel. AA badges for commonwealth countries had an extra country label above this. the badge in the photo doesn't have this feature. picture also seems to have crop marks on for publication...?

I believe that is the first officially UK imported VW transporter, according to a period auto magazine.

I find it highly interesting how somebody with a real good deal of British humor, gave it the OLD 45 plate.....but it certainly was only by coincidence.....

like,..... ok if we have to, we will register this German box on wheels, but do not forget to remember the olden days, Gentlemen ....

I chuckle every time I see it... but probably just me making up things Laughing

My guess is the company had something to do with Old vinyl records.
‘A 45’ is an English term used to describe records with a 45rpm.

i guess that would have been funny to call 45s old back then, they were only invented in 49.

nevertheless, a cool plate.

mostly 78s up into the second half of the fifties, around '56/57/58. Early Elvis and even Jerry Lee Lewis records still came out on 78 acetates.

so in 1954 there would be practically very few 45s, let alone old ones.

Yes, it is.

The SSVC magazine reprinted the article a few years ago. I don't keep them after I've glanced through them, but the text from 'The Commercial Motor' is reproduced on their archive without the pictures...

https://archive.commercialmotor.com/article/2nd-april-1954/49/newcomer-sets-high-standard

and in a VW promo document (page 9)...
