Starter issue, please help.

hey there, i have bought the wasp LMS1101 starter (high tourqe starter without centric axle) and replaced it with my corrent 12v regular starter.
when i tried to start my car with the new starter i hear the the starter is not engage well and it wont spin the motor.
i cheked the flywhell tooth and the look alright.
When I turn the motor a bit with a wrench, the starter engage well.

do i need to do somethig in order to install it properly?
shall i remove the old starter bushing?
shall i use shims to make sure the the starter and the flywheel are propely align?

Typically when you replace a starter you replace the starter bushing.
My understanding is you could also use a later model starter for an automatic transmission car as they are self supported and do not need the bushing.
I've only ever replaced the bushing, never needed to replace a starter, so my knowledge is limited about it.

Making sure your ground straps are well connected might also help to ensure electricity flow, and you need to make sure your starter gear/flywheel teeth count matches up.

I'm not sure that I understand fully. But if you have a VW that originally had a 6-volt starter, and you're now trying to use a 12-volt starter, then you'll need to remove the 6-volt size starter bushing (use a tap if engine is installed) and install a 12-volt starter bushing.

The starter he installed is self supported. It is a high torque unit. Did it come with instructions? if not you may need to index it and line it up with the flywheel. By indexing I mean the mounting flange my need to be turned to line it up with the flywheel.

Could be you had a 6 volt starter with 12 volt solenoid on your old starter.

You just might have a 6 volt flywheel and your old 12 volt starter had a 6 volt gear adapted onto it.

109 teeth flywheel is 6 volt version.

130 teeth flywheel is 12 volt version.

You could remove the starter. Then mark one of the flywheel teeth thru the starter hole and have someone turn the engine by hand while you count how many teeth are on the flywheel.
