Head lights come on when engine is off!?!

Hello, I park my 93 Eurovan MV on the driveway for the winter. After a few days my neighbor noticed my head lights were on at night. I went into the van, started it, turned it off, the heads went out. A couple days later, same thing, lights came on in the middle of the night, engine off. Repeat one more time, battery is dead now. Any idea of what's going here? I did have rats camping out under the hood last winter but there's no signs of them this year.

It's both main head headlights, low beam.

Unless the rats fixed the damage of years past I would start there

I recommend unhooking your battery when parked for anytime over a week.. modern cars seem to have lots of battery usage when they are parked. In fact VW gave my brother a solar charger when he bought a new VW ORback a few years ago. I know however u do have a bigger problem but that's a sure fix for now. Hell a battery disconect is common on boats & airplanes WHY not cars ..Bill Good Luck from PR

Is your headlights completely stock or did you (or previous owners) wire in some bypass relays. I'd start by checking the wiring immediately downstream of the bulbs.
