I really appreciate the personalized avatars here showing the poster’s rig. How do you reduce a photo to the proper size so it will upload via my control panel?

On a Windows pc? Use Irfanview - one of the very few shareware programs I've donated significantly to. Really useful and productive once you use a few keyboard shortcuts. Batch resizing is great. Smile

Just a *very* happy user.

Another vote for IrfanView, I've used it for many many years

In addition to resizing, its other photo editing options (crop, rotate, color-balance, etc) allow you to make most photos more vivid/centered/interesting.

Standard IrfanView workflow: Rotate to level (Ctrl-U), Crop out unwanted parts of photo (select area + Ctrl-Y), then just slightly darken/saturate/contrast (Shift-G) & maybe sharpen (Shift-S) to make up for my ancient phone camera's deficiencies.

i have a possible request Mr. Everett...

avatars are limited to 100PX x 100PX. But, it seems theres plenty of space on the right margin.

how hard would it be to allow the max image size to be 130 or so px? From my limited coding skills, when i wrote my website, i had a linked CSS page that set the foundations for general lay out. would be as easy as changing 2 sets of numbers in css and java script?

just and idea, You know the site better than anyone.

Yes, they could be made larger if a bunch of people agree.

It's a setting in the web site configuration for the Forums so just changing the height and width numbers there.

I looked at the latest version of the Forums program and it looks like their current default is 120x120 pixels so they may have increased it over time.

Note: Your avatar would not get larger automatically, you would have to create and upload a new version.

So... how do i get people to voice themselves? Laughing

Post a poll in the general chat forum?

If you dont mind checking, how much more space can we have? Like, how much width is left in the margin before thing start to look crappy or well, go over the vertical line?

thanks

Current column width for that area is set to a fixed 150.

I would want to leave a little room of course so 120 or 130 should both be ok.
I would probably pick 120 in order to be consistent with the latest version default, in case I can upgrade.

Ideally people would see there is a new post here and respond.
