Can anyone direct me towards or know the thickness of rear backing plate where the bearing cap mounts to on short swing axle type 1. I have my old ones at an average of 5.3mm but would like to see if this is correct or not. New disk brake brackets are 6.5 which is making for play in the bearing once cap is torqued down. thinking about machining down the face of the new bracket to suck up some of the wiggle. _________________ 1963 ragtop

On my 1965 which has short axles, the drum brake mounting plates measured .200" thick. My new AC Industries disc mounting brackets were also .200" thick, which is about 5.08 mm. _________________ 1965 VW Sedan, 1968 C10 Step BB, 99 C5 |

I measured 5.2mm on one of mine. Other holes measured 5.3mm, takes only a little paint or corrosion to add 0.1mm. _________________

Thank you both for those measurements, exactly what i was looking for. I need to mill off like roughly 1mm on the face to make the bearing cap work effectively. Will pull things apart and double check measurements inside bearing cap and disk brake bracket. Thank you again for taking the time to measure those parts. _________________ 1963 ragtop
