Have any of you seen an option for the stub shafts on a bay window? I am doing 930 outputs on the trans and 930 drive shafts. Im looking for a 930 stub shaft now that will fit the bus hubs. Any suggestions? Thank you

Excellent, thank you. Other than larger diameter on the flange is everything else the same?

I just found this on another thread
Burley Motorsports can make (weld) Bus stub axles for 930 CV's if you send him a set of stock stubs to build from. They're not listed on his site but he said they'd be no problem when I emailed him last year. I'm looking into it so I can have 108MM CV's all around for consistency -- currently have 108mm inner CV's and 100mm outer CV's on stock Bus axles. Needed 108's to match Passat transaxle output flange; it's not ideal but gets the job done for now and has for a couple of years now.
I will keep digging for more info. I can't believe we are the only ones looking for this solution.

found this one also, several users said they sent them the old stubs and they got welded up to work with 930's. https://averysaircooled.com

Yes. Something I have recently found out haven't yet confirmed is that Vanagon stubs are the same as the Bay and at one time 930 stubs were offered for Vanagon.

I have seen both of those also as well as a third company that will weld them up. But there are 2 -3 companies I think may offer 930 Bay stubs. so i will call and find out.

Great job finding these, so the stub shafts are the same for bay windows?

Looks that way. I haven't been able to fully confirm it but I've seen a couple listings that say so.

I put my name to be notified once those axles are back in stock.

I was poking around their website and the stock stub axles fit all the way to 1991 vanagons from 68. Looks like these are winners. Since they are out of stock I wonder if someone else carries them now that we know it fits.

Need to be cooooooool man. I will put it out there straight away that I know using two of these (one for the trans and one for the engine) is probably over kill. But would you rather be cool or worried? I like not wondering what is going to happen going up I-70 in Denver on the way to the high country at 70 MPH with a full trailer. I think these will totally get the job done. Plus at $159 a piece at Jegs I think they are cheap insurance. Whats your read on them?

For those of you who have already done a Subaru swap, what temps do you recommend for both trans and engine oil? I need to order the auto temp switches.

never had a need to monitor either to be honest, and although i haven't looked specifically for the specs, i never have come across any data in the service information.

I've never monitored water & oil temps simultaneously but I would think normal operating range would be around 190 - 210 degrees. I don't remember any temps being stated on the Subie swaps I read about. I'm not using a Subie engine in my swap. Guys on a Subie forum would know.

Regarding the transmission oil temps, not sure. I have an 010 automatic from a Vanagon and just added a 24" aluminum finned oil cooler with a thermo unit that opens to the cooler when the oil temp gets to 180F. I don't have a temp sensor in that system but I can touch the cooling fins without burning my hand so I believe it is working well.

Regarding engine oil temps, most aftermarket oil coolers come with a 180F on sensor so I would guess that is the target temp but I'm not 100% sure.

For the coolant system, I've read on the Subaru forums that the thermostat starts to open around 170F and is fully open around 180-185F. Normal operating temps are between 180-210F. The stock Subaru fans usually come on around 205-210F but I feel that is too high for comfort so I wired in a 200F on and 185F off sensor and it's connected at the outlet of my belly rad.
I used a 180F on sensor during the summer but it didn't come on until around 195F and it worked well but it stopped working in Dec and I ordered and installed a new one. I don't have an air scoop underneath so limited forced air going through but the fan only comes on when driving at hwy speeds. I have aftermarket sensors on the inlet and outlet of the rad and monitor the engine temp via an OBD2 sensor and Torque app on my phone.

I have a Subaru Forester too as my daily driver and it holds between 180-190F all year round.

Since it's later in the day & I'm more awake then when I answered previously, I would have said that tranny fluid is cooled through the radiator so I would think that temps would run about the same all around.

It’s been a big fabrication night tonight, this is what I came up with for my off-road front bumper need. For those of you who weld for a living please disregard the fact that I only tacked up the bumper. When my brother who is pro welder shows up next weekend it will all get final burned in. What do you guys think? I’m thinking about some tow hooks and a spare tire hoop welded to the bumper.

That will look pretty agressive. That’s nice!
Go for the tow hook. Not sure for the spare on front, a rear swing out tire carier looks awesome!
