Finally got around to removing the torn seat cover/padding/etc on a driver side seat base from a 74 super beetle seat.
This is my first go at restoring a seat. I have watched lots of videos on the actual burlap/padding/vinyl install but can’t find anything on my frame question.
There are a couple broken springs. (Can those be MiG welded?)
How can you tell if the seat/springs are just worn beyond repair?
Thanks for your advice.

Those cannot be MIG welded. It will not hold for long. I think that the spring has more of something in it that makes it springy and whatever that is, makes it so it does not weld well.
To know if they are bad, means tearing the cover and padding off of the springs.
To repair the springs, I have done full spring replacement from a good seat, with good springs.
I did have a bad seat back spring on one of my Bugs. I was able to create a splint for it, utilizing steel rods for the structure and concrete tie wire for the wrapping. Worked for years! _________________ Jimbo

As usual I appreciate the quick reply!
I found this site that might be a better option than the thing to repair the springs.

From the curvature of the frame does it look solid? |

You are welcome!
Looks solid to me. If you do not see any broken welds, it is solid. _________________ Jimbo
