The one on the left is out of my 56. Is the other one an oval assy as well? I want to convert it to 12v, will either one of these accept the WW 12v armature conversion?[/img] _________________ "One man can make a difference...Jesus did." |

Hey Saggs:
Check into one of these...
I have one on my Bus and it works great -- it even has a park feature!
It's a rear wiper motor off of a '69-'83 Volvo wagen

Sweet We've got volvos all over the place up here! I can probably get one for next to nothing. Looks like a bolt on job. Are they 2 speed, and if so can I get a switch to look oval era? _________________ "One man can make a difference...Jesus did." |

One speed -- kinda slow.
I only use my wipers to help pass inspection. Otherwise, they're pretty useless.

So if I plan to drive in the rain will this motor cut it? Maybe I could swap just the armature. _________________ "One man can make a difference...Jesus did." |

Does the Volvo motor require special wiring to make the motor park?
Thanks in advance,

just buy an armature from WW or CIP1 for like $35. Takes 2 mins to install. Assuming the one on the left is an SWF (which it appears to be) _________________ 1957 Beetle

That's what I originally planned and why I have the pics posted. WW says their armature is for 58 and up. The one on the left is out of my 56 and I believe it's original. My question then does either one look like a candidate for the WW upgrade? I don't have enough wiper savvy to make that call PS: They are both SWF units _________________ "One man can make a difference...Jesus did." |

The one on the left you can't convert, but the one on the right should work with a 12V armature. It appears to be a 60's era motor with the spade connectors.
Ideally you want a 57 motor (one year only) and a 3 wire switch. This will enable you to use the 12V armature and get a park function out of it. _________________ 53 Canadian standard oval

Thx Trevor, Will the newer one on the right still park but it will be in the wrong place or wrong side for my oval? There was a guy on the beetle site that was selling an electronic voltage converter that has a 90% efficiency rating and won't burn up motors like the volta-drop system did. Any thoughts on that? _________________ "One man can make a difference...Jesus did." |

The one on the right appears to be an oval wiper frame with a later motor, maybe it already has a 12V '67/'68 motor on it? Check for a part# or a 12V stamping on it. The later motor will park on the wrong side however IIRC. _________________ 53 Canadian standard oval

actually the one on right is 1967 only=4 wire posts. 68 has 5 wire posts. but use oval gear plate on a 68, and it will hook up to small pin 67 and older linkage. i am talking about very 1st picture, not one with no framework. _________________ Admin note: Bill Passed away - July, 2017

nothing can be done bwith left one. the right one is 67 12 volt. 12volt has 3 brushes, 6volt has 2 brushes.67 only has 4 terminals while 68 has 5 terminals. _________________ Admin note: Bill Passed away - July, 2017

You can use a 58 up motor in the 56 frame .Do the 12v armiture swap and change it to park on the right side. You will also need to use a 57 3 pole switch.I did mine 9 years ago and it works great and was not hard to do. _________________ 56 oval sunroof 78 Westy |

I've been reading through the 6v-12v wiper conversion threads and think I'm confused more as a lot.
I'm not sure if what I have is a '56 motor as it has spade connectors? The housing is stamped 6v.
I have reached out to the "WiperGuy" but, in the meantime til I hear back I removed the wiper assembly in my 56 which is 12V and would like to figure out what I need to do to get 12v wipers.
Thanks

the PO converted our old 11A to 12v - used the 6v wiper motor with an attachment to make it 12v - would be good to understand as we also converted our 1960 SC to 12v, but we never hooked up the wipers as are still 6v - just don't use the truck in the rain - z _________________ 5/50, pastel green 11G - SOLD

I believe the motors with the permanent magnet field can be converted to 12V by swapping the armature. _________________ 1-0900722 die langsame grüne Schildkröte
