Curious to why did you remove all the green primer? |
I love to work on clean metal parts, welding on paint dont work, i want to see whats underneth the primer, i want to use thin layers of paint, VW do not use green primer, i donīt like green underneth the finished paint, because if i get a scratchit looks green out of the scratch, so many good reasons for me to do that extra work

Yes, I agree with all the above. That green stuff is thick, gooey and in my experience, the metal is not prepped well underneath. I've wiped it off with thinner and the metal is often surface rusty. Surface rust isn't good and anything that can be stripped with lacquer thinner isn't compatible in a modern paint system. My understanding is it's just a temporary primer and not to be used as a permanent undercoat. I'm surprised how often I see it left on.
Nice clean work on the bus. I always enjoy your threads. _________________ David S |

Nice to read you thinking the same.
thank you for your words, i often looked your threads, i have (and want) so much to learn in the future when i see how clean you to that work!!
Some cutting and welding test on the floor:
I wondering about the inner rocker, it is a nos part but it looks the former rocker was bent upward to meet the floor in some points, can anyone confirm that? (look the last picture. there you can see the old spotwelds on the higher spots on the floor)

Sorry I missed your question on the inner rocker to floor yesterday... I've seen that done both ways. if it was spot welded, it was just crudely pulled together at the spot welds. The way you did it looks nice.
I've seen that short rocker before and I think it's a later replacement part. If you use it, I'd just reshape the dimple to match the cargo rocker. _________________ David S |
