The visors are 1958-59 only, hard to find in usable condition and no reproductions available. The mirror is not for oval, I believe I've seen that style in an early euro deluxe bus. But don't quote me on that! Similar to an oval vert mirror, but wrong mounting bracket |
Barndoor Deluxes have visors like that but the shape is more square.
You may have seen an accessory flip-down plastic visor.
I've seen those in a few Buses over the years. _________________ How to Post Photos

“It was completely and correctly restored about 15 years ago by an authority on VW restorations. Nothing but the most authentic and correct parts and features for a late-1955 Beetle were used. It is all correct, including mid-year changes and 1955-only features.”
Except for the parts that aren't correct

I'm not an oval guy so the only thing that stands out to me is the rear apron and maybe the wrong tail lights?
What do you oval experts spot? |

When this car was restored 15+ years ago, a lot of the reproduction parts that we take for granted today were simply not available, like the original-style running board rubber, correct front/rear aprons, and aluminum carpet trim.
It would not take a lot of effort to turn this into an award-winning show car with correct details.
The big stuff (in descending order):
- Replace the poorly-installed domestic loop carpeting with German Square Weave, cut correctly with a black toe guard, aluminum rings and a rubber bulkhead mat.
- Correct 4-finger front and early rear aprons
- Correct gauge running boards with rubber BBT mats
- Correct front bumper (no plastic grommets)
- Correct trunk liner
- Correct-looking engine bay insulation
The minor stuff:
- Correct fuel pump
- Correct TE6A3 coil and bracket w/paper decal
- Repro decal on strap air cleaner
- Correct '54-'55 vent handles
- Correct hood handle gasket
- Correct boots on distributor cap
- Rubber plugs over hinge screws
- Off-black gas tank w/unpainted cap
- Correct ROSCO mirror in place of "101" mirror
Pretty much everything else is original and correct, including the tool kit and 4-brick crest.
Interior appears to be late 1990s Sewfine, installed correctly (except for the carpeting).
Radio is from mid-1960s, but looks nice. _________________ Thanks,

I think the seller was expecting a bidding war on Hemmings and when the bids leveled off at $27k, he posted his asking price of $50k a day or two ago (with no offers to date).
If he spent a couple of grand on fixing some of the major stuff I listed above and another $1k on detailing by a knowledgeable professional, he might get some decent offers from serious collectors. The underbody on this car is the nicest I've seen for an early oval. _________________ Thanks,

For $90,000.00, you'd think they'd take better pictures. Half of those look like they're through a screen door. _________________ .

I agree, better pics, more pics, better description of the car and how about identifying the year as well. |

Just simple spelling errors.... we all make such accidental mistakes when buzzed or high.
I'll correct it for him.

The car has been pulled from Hemmings' site. Let's see where it shows up next. _________________ Thanks,

Haha! I saw that earlier. I see this type of nonsense all the time. Restored, meaning it was painted. Gotcha. _________________ 11/2/54 L227 Strato Silver Ragtop - Soon to be L41 Black - Build Thread
