So for awhile now I've been kicking around selling my Oval. So, I made a simple ad... Seems so simple, right?
WRONG! ... Since I put up the ad up here last evening my phone has been literally ringing & texting off the hook from since last midnight being threatened by the IRS, AMAZON, WAL-MART & the general give us your information and so on... And now I've deactivated the ad and my phone is still going off the hook with scam after scam to the point I've now shot off my ringer...
WTF & WHY?
I have never ever had a problem like this on Thesamba before selling anything... What gives!? _________________ ::: Slowoval ::: LaDawri Sebring ::: '61 Creampuff ::: Dust Storm '66 :::

I haven't heard of that many calls but the scammers will often text you if use a phone # in the ad.
I've told people before if they get too many scams (texts) to provide their phone # only by request to serious buyers.
I'm not sure if it's something because of the site but that is a weird coincidence.
Sort of off the topic:
My wife has always gotten gets a zillion scam days/day.
I get very few.
Not sure why the difference, other than her phone # is the primary # on the account. _________________ How to Post Photos

That's what struck me odd as I've always had my # in my ads here forever and have never ever had an issue like this before (though it's been awhile since I sold anything major, here)... Even my wife last night was asking who the hell is calling at 2am & then 5 minutes later a text ding. Went downstairs and there's 1/2 dozen calls of unknown callers & random digit texts. I shut off the ringer. Then woke at 6 turned the ringer back on and 15 minutes later it's the IRS (idiot got an earful). Though it settling down since deactivating the ad.
It just really blew me back with the volume. And out of all of them only 1 was from someone with an actual inquiry about the car.
I suppose I'll just hold back for now until I pull it out of storage in two weeks & try again in May. Except I'll NOT put my phone number in the ad anymore.
I guess we just live in a new world these days I suppose... Kind of sucks. _________________ ::: Slowoval ::: LaDawri Sebring ::: '61 Creampuff ::: Dust Storm '66 ::: |

See if you have an option to send all calls to those NOT in your contacts list straight to voicemail. That stops most. But check VMs frequently since you could miss a legit message otherwise. |

Thanks KT, yes I do...
I forgot about that... My ancient 6s died & they replaced it with a 12s. I guess not all settings are ported over at transfer... Thanks again KT, that definitely helps! _________________ ::: Slowoval ::: LaDawri Sebring ::: '61 Creampuff ::: Dust Storm '66 ::: |

If you are leaving your number out there for all to see, then what is stopping someone from taking it and using it to enter in some of the internet scam ads for weight loss, Viagra, sex enhancers, truck driving school, just to be a jackass, the list is endless. It is most likely where it is coming from. Try using a separate email account for contacts and weed them out there. _________________ Come on, It's not rocket science. KISS |
