I'm putting the "finishing touches" on a customers early 1959 36hp bus engine. What I'm trying to find is the
2 "square" O-rings that join the air cleaner to pipe and one at the other end where it attaches to the carb.
I've seen someone post a link somewhere on this thread to McMaster-Carr's catalog that shows different sizes
but I cannot find it. Is there a factory part number or does someone sell these or something that will work?
Thanks for your help.

I bought a few of these a year ago. They were original parts with VW logo and part number. |
According to the seller, the parts diagram he is using indicates that seal is for post-1967 air cleaners. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

Eric and Barb, there are a couple ads for the same seal. This is the one I bought, it says it is for earlier, too.

diablosandwich: the grommet/gasket you are showing is not for this particular split bus application.
the vw part numbers for the gaskets in question are:
#102 is 261 129 643
#103 is 261 129 683
261 129 643 is a tall rectangular profile gasket that fits in a small channel and compresses against the top of the carburettor.
261 129 683 is a flat gasket that gets squished between the air cleaner tube and upper part of the filter housing.

Think that the seller means it should work. Plus says to check out the diagram which does not seem to be there. Listed as 1200cc means it could be for post-1967 Euro VWs that came with special pistons and cylinders in 1600 engine case.
VW 261 129 643 is for the carb to tube listed for up to chassi 216 100 000, which is beginning of 1966 model year.
VW 261 129 683 is for the air cleaner to tube.

What's the O.D, I.D. and thickness of those rubber gaskets? I just refurbished the brake calipers on my 911SC last week and looks like the caliper piston seals and dust boots just might fit the bill, and the front brake kits are very inexpensive, as in less than $15. And if it would work, you'd have a spare for each. _________________ Never argue with an Idiot. They'll only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience. |
