Stop worrying about pre-76 CA emissions gear and go spend your energy with friends and family.

Would he have to put that horrible smog pump arrangement on that came with ‘73’s.

That's what i'm hearing... can I just leave it on and bypass it?

You have to make that decision.

Any special tools I should be aware of? I hate cutting my tools up and making specialty tools that i could just buy.

As I don’t live in California, I don’t know how much they would know or care whether a one year only smog pump was there or not. If you absolutely had to have it sitting there, I’m sure they would be a way to do that with the smog holes in the heads blocked off. And it might depend on the individual inspector…some guy who knows every piece of smog equipment put on every car ever who has never kissed a woman.

Inspections in northern NY are pointless and don’t look at much. Nothing like an MOT in the UK, but there was this one guy at this backwoods garage who insisted I take the reflectors off my cab doors because he did not believe me when I told them they were NOT lights. Then there was this inspector in Quebec who insisted that I weigh my bus at a quarry because the weight on my US paperwork didn’t list the same weight they listed on the Quebec paperwork. You just never know.

I need to do a little more research regarding the smog equipment and if I need to do an initial smog before registering it. The bus has been out of registration since 94'.
