Hi Sambas,
I have a 1600i 1995 Mexican Beetle. I’ve had it in to the local VW dealer for some engine work. They discovered by leaving it outside one night, that most of the rubber seals are shot and need to be replaced. I don’t have a complete list of seals yet, but basically windshield, trunk, and everything on both doors. They can’t seem to find the parts in their system (No ‘beetles here after ‘79).
Questions
1. I’ve been told “assume it’s a ‘74” when it comes to body parts. Anyone know if that’s true. Can easily order 74 parts online.
2. Any good leads on parts suppliers for Mex beetles (do not speak Spanish). I’ve seen some engine parts but not body parts.
Thanks 😊 |

Hi,
the Mexican Beetle 1995 has a body that is similar to the 1974-1979 Standard Beetle (not Super!) sold in the US. There are however a lot of smaller differences which you can easily spot regarding your car and cars here in the gallery.
Windshield and door rubber from a 1974 standard generally fit on your 95 Mexican, but check out what you need and get: I guess your car does not have chrome, so you need the rubber parts without chrome.
Trunk seals are specific on Mexican bugs, because they partially (not the part under the windshield) stick to the hood and not to the body, but you can get those Mexican trunk seals online at many shops.
Good luck,
Alex |

Some options in order of complexity of the fix: a weak battery, bad alternator brushes, regulator going bad or a diode failing in the rectifier. You'll need to get a multimeter and take some measurements to be sure.
Edit: I forgot the simplest explanation: slipping fan belt. _________________ cars:

I'm curious, what was the issue in the end? _________________ cars:

I just checked connections in the engine compartment.
Something was loose. |

Nice looking bug, is that a super moon roof? I've never seen one like that. Is this custom or what do they call it? _________________ I call it Patches - My 72 body with the heart of 68..driven by a 1991 animal |

It's called an Open-Air roof. It's electric.
I believe it was an aftermarket addition. |
