I love fresh paint on cars. It's arguably one of the best moments of doing a build, in my opinion. A close second place behind realizing that it's done and you can go make noise with it.

I know I have to but I really don't want to!

While the body is being worked on, I'm 350 miles away trying to sort out this interior. I sourced a few original door panels that I'm hoping I can piece a set together from. I took one of the upper panels that I'm not gonna use and did a practice clean on it. I could have kept going which made me feel better about a few of the panels I do plan on using. I might have to swap the backing boards, but won't know until they are clean. Thanks to Pedro for the cleaning tips and advice!

If anyone has any super clean panels you aren't going to use, hit me up!

Here are a few shots of that practice panel:

I'll start snapping pics of the rest as I clean them up.

Onward and upward...

Cool

I always liked the original Ruby Red my 65 Notch came with. The only problem was the best paint of it was underneath. d'oh! It was also why I did a color change on it. Yours looks beautiful in that color. Cool

Thanks for letting me document it. "The project" has been on hold because of crazy work demands, but I'll be back on it soon.

Nice background and progress on the notch! Been awhile since I've been on here and I've been missing some good stuff.

Good call on the route you're taking-after seeing the pics of the rust, the car was beyond a simple preservation. This is going to be a beautiful example when you're done with it. I started out my own '70 Fastback project with a preservation in mind, then a drivetrain swap with preservation, and now it's just both feet in and doing a full nut and bolt job. That is how these things go, often.

Looking forward to seeing more pics and reading about the progress you're making as you go.

Yes! We had no other early hoods to swap it out with...so we went with it and fixed it and the areas around both front hinges. The hyper-extension did a number on this area and the hood itself.

That's looking real pretty. I've got an all og ruby red bug that has patina and some fender damage. I'm thinking about trying to do the body work on the fenders and having them resprayed to match the faded ruby red on the rest of the car. Would never repaint the whole car because the only paint and body issues are on the fenders. Did you have that painted at ISP West or is that another place? Are you doing the spraying on it or having it done? And where?

Looks great so far. It's amazing how much damage can be hidden by paint and/or bondo. I've had two Type 1's that were Swiss cheese and more bondo then metal once I got into them. Very disheartening but it looks like you've got a great handle on that notch. Nice work!

Thanks! ISP West is on it. We didn't go full blown show car with it but it should be very, very nice and something I won't be afraid to use. Looking forward to getting back down there to help with some of the assembly. Lots to do...

I wanna drive this thing!
