I recently purchased this steering wheel cover... Anyone have any info on these? What years they were made?
Any info would be great, thanks. _________________ ✠Miklo✠

These were sold at your VW Dealer and the earliest I could find appeared in the 1968 Volkswagen Accessories Brochure. |

Yup, this is about the earliest info I have come across... in a 67 accessories pamphlet.
Guess 67 is the earliest these were made? _________________ ✠Miklo✠

My 67 bug had one. It was nice and soft until the sun beat it to death. It cracked and fell apart. _________________ (o\ ! /o) -Bumblebee a '67 1500cc |

Digging up an old thread here.
Today the mailman brought me a package from Tassos in Athens, Greece.
This cover is KAMIE and I suspect that it is the same as the official VW accessory, but without the VW logo. Unfortunately, in my excitement, I failed to take a picture of the part numbers, etc, on the seam before I installed it.

Kamei, a Karl Meier brand. There's plenty of interesting data facts to be found here:
https://www.kamei.de/en/company/history
Regarding the wheel cover from VW accessories being a Kamei product, well maybe, maybe not. Like nowadays rims, windshield wiper blades and so on, producing a knock-off is very simple to do and many potential suppliers lining up available to do it. |
