There are some variations in the JX alternators.
You need to give some more info about yours.
Pictures front and rear would help.

You can easily mount a similar Bosch alternator from that era, maybe modify the tensioner. Reuse your pulleys . On mine I had mounted a 90A from an Audi 90 back then. Pretty sure stock was 65A on the JX.
The W connector is what drives your tach, but you can always add it, tap into one of the phases of the alternator if you can't find one. _________________ Silicone Steering Boots and 930 Cv boots for sale in the classifieds.

Sorry, I've looked for that version of the later 65 amp alternator myself but haven't yet found an exact match in the US.
There are a couple options with a "W" lead. The hole for the belt tensioner bracket arm is in a different spot though so a different tensioner arm is needed.
I hope someone can point us to an exact match.

Please post if you find a North American solution. I ended you adding the W wire to a GoWesty alternator - fairly easy but a bit of a process.

If the bearings are good, you could probably just replace the brush/regulator assembly and get going again. |
yeah the last time it crapped out i had it rebuilt, i guess that may ork again, but id rather replace with new at this point. i dont NEED a tach as long as its charging, do you think i could jut swap out the pulley and face from a new bosch 65a with existing and leave the W wire out of it? _________________ '88Doka JX td

You should just be able to use a mk2 golf/Jetta diesel or TD alternator. |

In the past I have bought things like this on German Bay and used a re-mailer so I had a shipping address in Germany. I saw this alternator listed on E-bay |

Yes you can prolly swap the pulleys.
For a Jetta alternator, bc the ear is not clocked or cast the same way, either see if you can reclock the alternator or make a tensioner with 2 legs, one from a WBX, like a compass.

Interesting. I didn't realize the electrical terminations were different.
https://www.brickwerks.co.uk/t3-parts/engine/diesel-cs-ky-jx/starting-charging.html - This might be a good resource for you or anyone else who stumbles across this. Different alternators, brackets, terminals, and even brushes/voltage regulators. |

If you already have one that's not working just have it rebuilt by a starter/alt repair shop. _________________ 53 Canadian standard oval
