It appears that the left front tire is about to rise above the pavement-----caused by the new-found extreme torque, no doubt.

Oh I was givin’ it the gun alright!
It is funny how it wants to take off where it once was such a sedentary ol’ coot.
Although I was prepared to live with whatever our car had to give, I can tell you that I am very pleased with the newly gained pep. _________________ 1973 Porsche 914 2.0

Not correct.
Lowlights used chromed steel. I usually have my originals rechromed unless the tabs have been snapped off. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

If your original chromed rings still fit well into the dash openings, you can apply a thin, widely spread film of "rope caulk" to the ring to hold it in place. The caulk will contact the dash opening and the friction/dense consistency of the caulk holds it. Often called "dum-dum"; or in German, "Baerenscheisse" (bear sh$t) due it sticking so well. Levine's auto parts on Rt 7 should have it.
You can also apply a more permanent solution such as 3 small dots of caulking or silicone equidistant around the ring. |

Thanks Rome.
I did try something along these lines and failed miserably— gunky black residue. Sounds like we might be able to do better. Thanks for the local pointer! _________________ 1973 Porsche 914 2.0

You know, I think the replacement value for our car might have gone up a tinsey bit. Any opinions as to what value I should inform my insurance company of? _________________ 1973 Porsche 914 2.0

I insured each of my Ghias with Hagerty. Surprisingly very affordable. For $70, their driving club provides up to 100 mile tows among other benefits. I don't think I went full value, but I went with 25% over what I have into them. I would think our lowlight should easily have a value of $40k with all the improvements that have been done.? Hard to know with lowlights since so few of them show up on the market. And very few on Bat where we all see the selling price. Of those that sell off BAT, we only know the asking price.
Will be curious to see other opinions. _________________ Marc

I'm not bringing either of my Ghias, but I will be there weather permitting. Looking forward to seeing my first lowlight in person. I've read that Ghias have been well represented at this show in past years. _________________ Marc

Hagerty sez $57,800 in excellent condition ($84,500 concours condition), but what do they know? |

Thinking about how Hagarty does valuations and using all the available information from sales I could find, I made and educated guess at what it would actually cost to replace them, especially if you could not find on in the same condition and had to have one restored.
The couple of restoration shops I am aware of were charging $140 per hour. That was a couple of years ago.
So, find a decent restorable lo-light (or any other type) for $25k would be difficult but doable. Then budget $50k for the restoration work. $75k would be a fair estimation of replacement value of your 59 IMO. _________________ "Depression is a malfunction of the instrument we use to determine reality.”

I am hoping to make this weather permitting and if i can find someone to watch my Wife for the day. I will also be VWless as its a haul for me. If i get to go i'd love to meet you both. Been to this show going back to when it was at the Inn and even as recent as a few years ago. Usually a good swap area too |

Thanks for the valuation opinions.
I visited my insurance agent with our car yesterday and have gone with a conservative $50k. _________________ 1973 Porsche 914 2.0

Great. Look forward to meeting you as well. It will be nice to meet fellow Samba people. I really enjoy treasure hunting so hitting the swap meet is priority for me.
