Good Luck!! That is impressive.
You are Geographically challenged like I am trying to race in Mexico. I am building a buggy now for NORRA 1000 in April this year, and I live in West Virginia. _________________ Bad News Racing 2018 NORRA 1000 3rd in Class

Speaking as a long time SCORE Tech Inspector (I'm retired now), I have to wonder if you've looked at a SCORE rule book. SCORE being the organization that puts on the event known since 1973 as the "Baja 1000". It certainly does NOT fit Class 11 for Stock Bugs, nor for Class 5-1600 Limited Baja Bugs or Class 5-Open Baja Bug classes. The only race category that would allow that car would be Class 1, for unlimited buggies. So you would be competing against buggies with 800-900hp V8s, 30" of wheel travel at all 4 corners, 40" tall tires, 8 feet wide and wheelbase of 10 feet+. You will probably be required to have a roll cage of 2" x .120 wall tube (depending on the car's weight). Not to mention all the rest of the safety rules.
Now if you're talking about the NORRA Mexican 1000 offroad rally, that's different. But I still don't know what category it would fit into. Certainly NOT into any of the historical classes. _________________ Richard

I grew up in the San Fernando Valley, like my mother before me. Only a couple of times I saw snow on things there. February 1962 a couple inches at my home in Sylmar (1600', pretty close to La Crescenta elevation) but none in most of the Valley, and December 1978, an inch in the north valley, but none at my girlfriend's house in Burbank. I have a photo of my grandparent's house in Van Nuys with 6" of snow on the front yard in 1948. I expect it's snowed in the Valley a time or 2 since I moved to the Desert though. In the early 90s, heading home from work one evening leaving the Valley, we encountered snow in Sylmar. Snowed on all the way home (about 65miles). before we got home, we were in deep enough snow that it was plowing up over the hood of our '67 Bug. That time TV news later showed snow on Huntington beach.
So where and when was that pic of your buggy taken? _________________ Richard

Sorry, just noticed Dusty's post. That picture was actually in Fawnskin, Big Bear area. Thing is that it was in July or August, and my wife and I got caught in a short snow storm just before this photo. Didnt last long, but we were not dressed for it, it started a hail, with lots of wind, and man it hurt when it came in the side and hit in the face. My wife covered her face, but I had to drive. Later it turned into nice snow. In La Crescenta, I have seen it snow I think 5 or 6 times in the last 35 or 40 years. I remember one morning on the way to work, stopping off the side of the 210, and taking pictures of Verdugo hills golf course, everything was white, but the putting greens. It looked neat. My son lived in Palmdale for 3 years, and pretty much once or twice each year they got snow. |
