@oprn: So sad! Hopefully it went to a good home, someone who can bring it back up to service and/or show quality to love it for years to come. You'll always have those memories with your family and the bus. Those are things to be thankful for. |

In high school a trouble making semi-student came to class with a 1952 split window bug brush painted orange. He drove the thing like a madman and finally blew it up. A couple of days later I spotted it on top of the pile of cars in the junk yard. Two days later it was crushed and gone. That was 1969 and I still remember thinking "I should see if I can buy that car." He was a twisted dude that was in and out of trouble and eventually died of AIDs in prison. And I was a woose. |

@Iowa Mark: That's a sad story, both for the wild guy and his end, as well as you missing out on what would now be considered a highly collectable car! Some people just seem to have a death wish, you can't tell them anything.
@Big Bill: Pretty beetle. I always wonder how those rag tops do with wind buffeting. Was it fun to drive on a nice day? I'd almost consider converting my 67 to a sliding rag (there's a guy in my area that does the conversion) but south FL is so hot it's actually better that I just get my AC filled with freon instead. |

I think it did go to a good home. A musician bought it and has been driving it all over western Canada. He got in touch with me the other day with a progress report on his efforts to rebuild it.
The Corvair though... not so good! I saw it on the highway shortly after I sold it, smoking like a locomotive and knocking badly. I told him the engine HAD to be rebuilt before it could be run! A couple years later I spotted it at the Wreckers all stripped out and waiting the crusher. That car would have been worth well north of $50K today! _________________ We had the stone age, the bronze age, the industrial age and now we are in the age of mass deception and mind control for corporate profit. I have two:
1969 Mercedes 300SEL 6.3 Euro "Corvette Eater", Midnight Blue on Parchment leather. It and my wife didn't get along. No, I don't regret keeping the wife, but I do regret selling the car.
1960 Mercedes 180D 'Ponton'. Column shift 4 speed. Sort of an eggplant on creme. Slow as hell but it always got me there without any complaints.
Both were long time daily drivers. Talk about polar opposites in the speed department, though. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Another old family friend is leaving the fleet this weekend. A '66 GMC school bus converted to a motorhome. Dad and I bought it together and both him and mom and Sandra and I had some good holidays in it. We haven't run it for a number of years now and can't see it happening at present fuel prices and the 7 mpg that it gets. _________________ We had the stone age, the bronze age, the industrial age and now we are in the age of mass deception and mind control for corporate profit. 1968 El Camino Big Block 4 speed in that Metallic blue with black inserts. Gas was getting near $1.00 a gallon and I thought it was crazy.
1970 Porsche 914-6 (2 of them) fun car that has really gone up in value lately.
I'd really be kicking my self if I had a AMX with Go package and sold it though.

@hitest: That's cool you had two fj's 30 year difference.
I always wonder how the newer one drove because it became such a highly sought after vehicle after its discontinuation. Why do you regret selling it, and do you have any cool stories about either of them? |

I'm an old guy so there's lots of regrets....
Ones I got rid of:
1968 Bay window double cab, back in the 80's, for $300. Pics in my gallery. HUGE MISTAKE!!
1st car - 1969 Camaro with factory air
3rd car - another 1969 Camaro
The one that got away...
I'm almost 16, not working, no license, and my dad absolutely would not let me buy a car.
2 blocks down the street, a guy had 2 cars for sale. A Austin Healey and a 1958 356 cabriolet. The 356 was in great shape and only needed a muffler. $850.
I begged my older brother to buy it for me, I had the money, but he wouldn't. That was 1974.
I still give him a hard time about it!!

1970 Pontiac Catalina wagon, was 400 2bbl converted to Olds $350 4 BBl. It did everything ever asked of it, wrecked and insurance totaled a few times ( it kept coming back to life). My family owned in for 35 years before giving it away to a woman that hit hard times, It drove to Idaho never to be seen again. From getting laid to hauling cow shit, that car did it all! _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

I've made some horrible mistakes.
-'72 BMW 2002, in inka orange. Sold in 2011 for about 1/20th of what they're going for now. I did at least sell it to buy a Beetle I'm still driving.
-'52 Zwitter (traded it for a Beetle race car that ran for nearly 5 minutes)
-'73 Super (sold it to buy the Zwitter, and the guy who bought it destroyed it)
-'72 Datsun 510 rally car
-Beaten but solid '69 Westy. Sold for $1700 in 2015, took 2 months to sell.
-'73 Porsche 914 2.0
-'85 Rx-7 that I owned for 13 years and the kid totaled it a day after he bought it from me.
-'87 Mazda 323 GTX
-I scrapped a pair of running AE86 Corollas, a GT-S notchback and an SR-5 hatchback. I did post pictures of them crushed flat on the AE86 Buy & Sell page where about 30 people flaked out on actually showing up to buy them. I was asking $800 for the pair, and actually ended up getting more than that at the scrapyard. _________________ '60 Canadian Standard, '64 Bug, another '64 Bug, '66 Bug, '69 Sunroof Bug, '69 GT3 Bug, '71 Super, '72 Super, '73 Canadian Custom, '74 Love Bug, '83 Mexi Bug, '85 Cabrio, '94 Mexi Bug, '99 New Beetle, '02 New Beetle Turbo S, '03 New Beetle VR6.
