I'm repainting my '65 split and not sure what the color of the steering column mounting bracket should be. I've seen a lot of black and some the same color as the dash. Any ideas?

I'm reviving this one...
My bus is a 64 standard, i already have the correct paint for the steering wheel and steering column, but im not sure about the correct color for the bracket.

Should it be black, or same color as steering wheel?

i know this was already answered here, im just double checking...

Thought I post a picture from the gallery. Looks to be same color of dash on a euro SC or a super early 55

That ^^ is odd... and looks like no knee knocker pad.

I have a grip of fat lip & thin lip brackets... all black.

early bus never came with knee knockers that was one of them big hatch fancy pants "improvements". Cannot recall first year of knee knocker pad, am sure there is someone out there with progressive refinements that could answer that better than me

Didn't see it in P.R.
WW site says Feb. 1955 (starting at chassis # 20-117903)

I think it was when they went from thin lip to fat lip trays.

Mango buses didn't have black brackets.
The pic above is not usual in the bracket color.

Could be... I just checked Neil's '58 15w & no knocker pad.

Brochures are notoriously 'iffy' for details... but I only looked at four brochures... two '62s seem to show no pad... and two '63's show the fatter (padded) bracket. Click to enlarge.

I need one for my 59 Panel. Looking in the classifieds most are black, but some appear to be original paint?

Thin lip = '55-'62, two larger round holes, one larger oval hole, countersunk mounting screw area
Screws to mount round collar = N 14 276 1 = DIN 7988 M6x12 chromed

These M6x16 screws are cheap, in the US and 4mm too long:
http://www.authenticclassics.com/Chrome-Plated-Oval-Head-Screw-DIN-7988-M6-x-16-p/auth-006572.htm

These (6) screws are correct, expensive (ebay user "chromschrauben24"):

_________________________________________________________
Fat lip = '63-'67, two larger round holes, one smaller round hole, flat mounting screw area. These take Phillips pan head screws... DIN 7985 or 7986. The oacdp.org parts list doesn't say that... but it's true.

Interesting... I have had someone tell me their original paint Deluxe had a red bracket but I can't remember seeing a Mango one.

My 8/60 DC does not have a knee pad or any evidence of one so it was added after that.

I checked the Gallery for Mango Buses and some were black and some were mango.
Here's a Mango one:

I wonder if there was some limited time frame in 1959 or 1960 where they were color matched for Mango and Deluxe Buses.

Updating post up above, because I found the correct thin lip screw and an almost correct (too long) fat lip screw. The "chromschrauben" German eBay seller looks like they're not selling anything anymore.

Thin lip = '55-early April 1961, Screws to mount round collar = N 14 276 1 = DIN 7988 M6x12 chromed:
https://www.authenticclassics.com/Chrome-Plated-Oval-Head-Screw-DIN-7988-M6-x-12-p/auth-008206.htm
_________________________________________________________
Fat lip = early April 1961-'67, These take Phillips pan head screws... DIN 7985. The oacdp.org parts list doesn't specify DIN type... but it's true. These are a couple millimeters too long, but will look correct from the top:
https://www.authenticclassics.com/Chrome-Plated-Pan-Head-Screw-DIN-7985-M6x15-p/auth-006616.htm

This is a 63, I think it should have the rubber knee bumper:
