Well
The 73 Autostick sold for $20,500 despite the seller's best effort to deep six the car.
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1973-volkswagen-karmann-ghia-convertible-16/
I think the result proves that if a KG presents, runs and can drive fairly well it's going to bring a decent price.
Seems the seller is suddenly happy!

I have never found these very attractive but looks to be a very nicely done restoration.
Personally I would have to find a way to ruin it by slamming it on a set of earlies
I know nothing about these other than they are Volkswagen do Brazil. More of a Type 3 variant. |
Somewhat of a cross between a Porsche 912 and a Karmann Ghia in my eyes. |
I'm afraid it reminds me of my first US car rental...Ford Pinto |

An ungainly looking car depending on the photo. But someone did nice restoration work on it at least. Bet it sells well.
I’m glad she got decent money for the Ghia. It wasn’t that bad of a car, just a hyper defensive seller. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

I doubt you could get a lowlight convertible these days in that condition for less than $80k. I’ve heard rumors of over six figures, but no confirmation.
I’d imagine it will go somewhere in the low to mid $50k range. It needs a paint job and some rust repair and the top is wrong, that might hold back bidders who want a perfect car.
Lowlights have not done well on BAT, they’ve sold for the same price as comparable later cars in similar condition. I don’t think the BAT audience is sophisticated enough to understand the difference between lowlights and 60-69 models. If I was to place my lowlight on BAT they’d have to agree to a very high reserve since I think it’s one of the few cars that would sell better on the Samba. |

Some BAT listings end up on Ebay either before or after BAT.
I think it's interesting to note it on this thread if that's ok?
There's a new listing on eBay for a very cool 74 restomod and I'm surprised that they would not try to sell on BAT first. I think this car would do well on BAT but the recent 71 vert that did way better on eBay after a disappointing auction on BAT might have people considering more options than just BAT. ??

A lot of classic car dealers are now using Ebay as just a way to direct people to their websites and that seems to be the case with this car. I found my 68 Ghia the same way. _________________ Marc

A refresher. The 71 was the one that was once owned by the good doctor
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1971-volkswagen-karmann-ghia-convertible-22/
The seller was fairly combative during the auction. I think anyone who might have been interested decided that there wasn't enough transparency.
dfoley was very fortunate to end up with the result his did. If the eBay buyer had access to the BAT comments the result most likely would have been different IMO.
Regatta was an amazing and rare find. It was very well presented. _________________ "Depression is a malfunction of the instrument we use to determine reality.”

Yes, I agree, odd that a dealer wouldn't have better people skills. He wasn't interested in honestly representing the car. I hope the buyer on eBay is going to be happy with the car.
Yes, a crazy rare find for sure. Sort of like Joan. 👍 _________________ Marc

This one started pretty high and was relisted on eBay a couple of times.
I offered him $10K for the body, pan and top mech and he turned it down.
It went from FL to GA too.
$16k is still a little high for what you get and who knows what's hiding under that Earl Schieb yellow paint.

I thought so too. But someone in the comments made a good point after the end of the auction, saying that the car was neither completely factory correct nor was it mechanically modified for modern driving (still on single circuit 4-wheel drums, etc). I think that's a fair point. I personally wouldn't drive a 4-wheel drum car with no seatbelts around Raleigh, and if I did buy a car like that that I wouldn't really drive, I'd want it to be just as it was when it left the factory. I think the sale price leaves some room to either upgrade the mechanicals and/or re-do the interior correctly. Had either been done I think it might've gone into the $30's. _________________ Currently own:
