Ok, I have finished my refurbishment of the Behr AC unit for my Vanagon. I have managed to decipher all the wiring using the manual that is available here on the SAMBA BUT I have two things that I need to know from you guys that have these units or have worked on them. 1) Anyone have the template for cutting the holes for the AC lines to pass through the front of the Vanagon or at the very least measurements of where the holes are? and 2). I have one extra wire that is not shown on the wiring diagram. The wiring diagram shows a 4 position fuse block with only 3 fuses present. My wiring there is pretty standard and matches the wiring diagram. However, I have a 4th fuse with a single heavy (possibly 12 gauge) red with white stripe wire that is about 6" long with a female terminal on the end. It is in continuity with the battery power wires that power the other fuses but no clue as to where it goes. My old Air cooled unit doesn't have any such wire. Anyone have a clue? Thanks for the help if you can give it. Hayden

I know from reading various threads on here that there are a number of folks that have installed or have an original install of these units. Can't someone help me out with a template or measurements?

There really aren't that many units out there.
I'd wager that many which are in use are in Vans serviced by shops and the owners know little if anything about the system.
Then the odds of an owner logging on and seeing this thread are also quite slim.

Just saying...... be patient.

If you mount the evaporator behind the glove box, it should become obvious where any holes are needed.
The H valve is located in front on the outside of the panel in the headlight area.

If you have an extra hot wire?
Is everything wired and working?
If so........
Tuck it away safely and motor on.

I have one I took off one of my vans, an 84 automatic well, kinda, a friend did it on my request when I commissioned him to sell the van for me while I was abroad. I don't recall such wire. I can look see if he labelled it....

AsI understand it, if you remove the front grill, near theRF headlight you will see the H valve and various A/C piping.

There are holes drilled that enter the passenger cabin, he needs to locate those holes fairly accurately.
