Anyone know where the holes are located on the door pillars in order to mount the seatbelt hooks? I’m installing the standard shoulder belts that do not retract, the old-school kind. I’ve seen diagrams pictured below that show two different possible locations but there’s no holes in the lower area there. Any insight?

These seat belt hooks - which were ALWAYS made of way-too-brittle plastic and kept breaking - mount as shown in the photo below, of my 1970 sedan. Since mine is a patina-special now (not like when I bought it in 1972), I didn't feel like buying new ones, just made-do with redneck engineering. But they're mounted correctly here; they bolt on with the two screws for the assist strap, underneath the strap.

That's interesting, do you happen to have a photo of the hook in use? I ask because I wonder how effective the system is when the hook is above where the shoulder belt is mounted. Thanks in advance. _________________ -- Steve

I could maybe take a photo tomorrow. Hole in the latch goes over the hook of the part you showed. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. From 1970 Beetle owner's manual in theSamba Technical tab-
A 1970 Bay window bus also uses this style belt and the holding hook. In this shot from its OM, you can see how the belt's metal "tongue" fits over the hook because the bus does not have the hand strap.
