Now that's how you take the bull by the horns and get rid of a bunch of rust. Those big floor pan pieces will save you a tone of work. Seeing the tunnel with the floor removed reminded me of when I did this. Krunchy's new floors.

The plan is to do all rust repairs, full mechanical restoration mostly in its stock form, polish original paint, new interior, and all new weather stripping. Basically full restoration, but with original paint. Here’s another update from work that we did a couple months ago.

Quick question for you guys. This evening we were installing the lower control arms shooting for stalk ride height. We read through The Brown Bentley Service Manual and searched some old post, but unsure if we are doing it correctly. So we set the pan side rails in level position, then set lower control arms to 39 degrees. Wondering if this is correct for stock set up? |

Your ride height looks stock here, but some drop the front a spline to even up the fender gaps.

You're probably pretty close. Bentley wants you to use the top of the tunnel to be level, then set your arms from that. Since you just welded your pan sections in, you could probably level those and work off them instead. Just level the tunnel, and check the floors and go from there. That's how I do mine. Keep in mind that the rubber bits might be worn or dried out, and could cause some of your readings to be off a little. If you're within a few degrees, you should be ok. The hardest part will be getting any changes to the caster IF you need to adjust it. I only say that, as it's built into the front frame head, and changes are only possible with the beam mounting bushings (going thicker). I hope this helps. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

You're doing it right-nice work. It was mentioned about worn rubber parts-I would assume you are going to replace pretty much every rubber part on that car including suspension and subframe bushings, correct? |

Here’s another update. We’ve been making a lot of progress putting in time everyday, but I still am trying to get this thread up to date.
And yes, we are going to replace all of the old rubbers. |

Awesome work Landon! Keep it up! I really like the patina and original paint!
I got my Squareback when I was 15 too, I fixed it up and it’s been my daily for the last two years. I took my drivers test in it and I think the guy didn’t even pay attention because he was so amazed I fixed the car myself and took a manual for the drivers test. I have had tons of adventures and fun in mine and I’m sure you will too. You get to meet a lot of different people from then for sure.
Once you get it dialed in they are super reliable and a blast to drive. I’ve put close to 20,000 miles on mine in the last two years of driving it. _________________ 1964 sunroof Beetle Restoration "Herbie"

Looks great, nice work. You're putting a lot of us to shame though, as we're not getting as much done on our own stuff. I need to find some time to get over to Good Year and have them swap some tires. But, I'm helping my son swap out his clutch and 6 speed MT (we pulled it so he could go thru it) in his Honda Civic that's tying up my garage. Not to mention I've been slowly putting a 1980 Pontiac Trans Am back together, so his car has that project on hold. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Thanks for all of the replies and comments. I am finally getting close to getting this thread up to date. Here are some pictures of us taking apart, painting, and rebuilding the front end.
The front end will be sporting narrowed control arms and dropped spindles fabricated by old speed

Great work and great welds! I glued my floor pans on using Panel bond structural adhesive. I have a youtube video on it. You guys move fast with good progress and great quality work! _________________ 1957 Oval Semaphore Beetle

It's been awhile, but I'm gonna try to get back to posting and being more active on here. I have a lot of updating to do since my last post, so here we go.
Below are some pictures of us rebuilding the back brakes.
The previous owner bought the car from a junk yard, and while disassembling the back brakes we believe we found out why it ended up there. One of the wheels must of fallen off while driving because one of the brakes and the lower shock mount was grounded down, putting it in the junk yard.

It ends up in a junk yard all because someone didn't tighten that axle nut to 217 ft lbs and add the large cotter pin. What a shame. Bonus for you to find a nice semi solid car to restore back to life. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Thanks Bobnotch. My dad and I have two parts that we aren't sure what they are, can you guys help us out?
Below is the birth certificate of the car showing that it has the original engine, that we believe only has 34,000 miles.
