Just a few glamour shots from yesterday, scrapped most of the dumb stickers off the glass and cleaned it up a bit.
Looks like hell but she drives nice.

The Dust Buggy sticker is interesting. Ashlynn bumped my son Warren (3gtech) out of his ride in the winning Rulo Solano/ORAF 5/1600 Baja for the Sunday race at Battle at Primm. He's 6' and 210lbs. She's like 5'3 and 125lbs. Made the car faster for the win over team mate Ruben Garcia (whose co-driver is similar to Ashlynn). He was cool with it though. Warren was even the one who buckled her into the race car for the start. I ran across their YouTube channel last week. Been watching some videos occasionally since. It's fun that she and Spencer are going around proving that a Super Beetle with McPherson Strut suspension can be a lot of fun offroad. I don't recommend it for everyone, but they're making it work. Shocked Cool I don't think they set out to prove everybody wrong, just rolled with what they found when they were ignorant noobs, then learned that most everybody says it won't work.

LOL . . yeah I trip on the super B setup too, but hey its a free country "kinda"
I ran into those 2 at the bug in swap meet, they were picking up a manifold for a single zenith setup and I commented on what a great setup it is if you got a good carb.
We chatted for a bit and they gave me some stickers.
The bug in the sticker kinda looks like my current project so I stuck it on to cover the antenna holes . . LOL

Hope you are doing well Dusty, I never know what to say to people when medical issues pop in on them other than my prayers for a speedy recovery are with you.
The VW community can't afford to lose any old school knowledge.
We need all we can get !!!

Replaced a leaky brake line and testing out a lighter shock on the back, The white KYBs were to stiff so my buddy Bob sent me a pair old GR2s he had in his stash.
Definitely an improvement. Thanks Bob!

I took a shot at patching up some rusty areas, I am not a great welder but I do have one and this spot definitely needs some attention so here we go.

This rust went all the way into the passenger area.

Well I had to start somewhere.
I would've filled in the low spots and flapper wheel it again but of course I run out of welding gas on a 3 day weekend so that's it until Tuesday for this. . . . LOL

Been wanting to personalize the dash without compromising the stock OG look and I think I finally figured it out.
I like really big warning lights and needed a fuel shut off and a horn button so this is what I came up with.

Needed a better way to secure the panel to the dash and some leftover skateboard hardware and a 10-32 tap took care of that.

It's getting harder and harder for me to hang on to the front apron on this build.
Lets see a show of hands.

It'll be hours of endless measuring before I bust out the cut off wheel.

After hours of staring at this front end I finally started making progress. The hood hinges were giving me an alignment issue and a massive headache so went with pins and made the hood removable for now.

Made pins from old hardware to get it to stay in position, I make some nicer ones later.
The fit is not perfect but Im not Chip Foose and this will be a go car not a show car, it'll do for now.
Once the hood was locked in place it was time to go all in and brake out the cut off wheel.

It was definitely a nail biter for a moment but I think it came out pretty good.
I got some repairs on the fiberglass to do but its all part of the game.
Now it's officially an old school baja.
Let the haters hate . . . LOL

If you put the stock hood back on, and chopped it to fit the bug eye nose the paint (“patina” I guess) of this whole car is perfect. Maybe you could match the look over the yellow hood?

Either way it looks cool
