We build them to drive them! Krankenwagen is getting plenty of attention at local cruises, sunset drives, ice cream runs, grocery getting and small shows....

Great job getting your bus on the road so quickly and enjoying it.

What are your thoughts on the Maxxis Bighorn now that you have had a chance to put some miles on them?

So far so good. Cool At the stock air pressures for the bus it is a very comfortable ride. There has been no rubbing at all, anywhere. They are not quiet on the highway, but not loud either. In my bus, the vehicle noise is greater than the tire noise so I don't notice them. I am very happy with the Bighorn purchase.

It's the positive motivation and knowledge shared by us all in this site, as well as among our air-cooled brethren at home, that allows us to accomplish the re-animation of these rolling incarnations of fond memories and unleash them on an unsuspecting, yet desperately needy world.

Tonight the Krankenwagen was hungry for work so I let her carry the bicycle to the park for a ride. A retired Veteran, who had been stationed in Germany, chased us down for an impromptu photo shoot and sharing of memories and well wishes before the exercise. What a great way to cap the day. Here's my own quick pics for no reason but the principle of it.

Keep on Buggin'!!!

We tried to find a cruise that wasn't where it used to be and ended up on a town square for an ice cream. Here's my friend's AMG modern German engineering marvel, framing yesteryear's German engineering practicality - as channeled through the apocalyptic Krankenwagen.

The whole summer was harvested cruising around the State of Ohio hitting cruises and VW shows in the Krankenwagen tribute camper. Very Happy

With a 63 mph top speed on level ground, 70 down hill and 55 climbing inclines without downshifting, this little 1600cc single port engine has kept up its end of the bargain! Next summer I will bring a brick to lay on the gas pedal and have cruise control. Laughing

I increased the distances as confidence in the build grew. The summer festivities culminated in a four hour drive, each direction, to camp at a fantastic show with the Cincinnati Ohio VW club. My buddies have been making it a point for years and I finally got to join in the fun!

Krankenwagen is in the big indoor Piston Powered Autorama show with her sibling Super Beetle to open the season, and it is literally a childhood dream come true. Very Happy. My dad took us to this show when we were kids and I can still recall the cars, and the wonder of it all.

So she got a spring tune-up, a bath, and is enjoying a sleepover with one of her friends at the venue.

Krankenwagen won a third-place trophy in its class compact panel at the Autorama! What a nice surprise! Very Happy

Here's some pictures from the show. We were in the basement and many more cars were upstairs on the main floor.
