I just rebuilt my stock carbs on my 1966 Squareback with 80k original miles. I went through valves, timing,, plugs etc while I was doing this job too. Anywho when dialing in the carbs the LH volume control screw will definitely slow down the motor when turning the screw in. The RH has no effect when turning the screw. I can literally pull the screw out and the motor still revs and idles just fine. I pull the LH one out and the motor kills instantly. Any thoughts to this? I pulled RH carb off and went through and blew everything out just to make sure. Did not make a difference. |

I made sure the intake manifold was tightened before I put the carbs back on. I maybe tightened them 1/8 of a turn.
What is the proper twin carb sync procedure for these carbs? Are they different that say dual 40 webers on a type 1? |

I just sprayed brake clean between the carb base and bottom "plate" on the carb and the motor revved up a tad. I'm assuming I have a leak there. I will pull off carb again and investigate that |

I put in a new throttle plate to carb body gasket with no change in performance. Any other opinions? |

Fixed it! Should have known. Idle cut off solenoid went bad. It's still 6v so I'll just look for a 45 idle jet with mechanical ball vs the electronic. Wierd thing neither click or make a noise when you put power to them even the LH one. Motor runs smooth as silk now. |

A local VW mechanic robbed a bug electric idle solenoid off of one of his cars for my '67 square to smooth out my Solex's! _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

That's weird, they always click for me
I wonder if the other one is busted too but the tip that cuts off fuel is trimmed so it doesn't matter that the electrical portion is broken. _________________ How to Post Photos

Never thought of that. There is a little set screw that is on the end right next to the terminal of the solenoid. If I back that out the plunger "sucks" in and holds. Just enough that fuel gets by. That was enough to get it up and running. Waiting on the jets to come in the mail before I actually drive it. |
