Looks good Andy, real nice. Just a little trimming to get the rear seat mount/kick plate to fit, and you'll be done. Keep in mind that the kick plate sits on top of the tunnel, so you'll have to trim the inside part of it to get the kick plate to sit flat on the floor.Looks like the Ghia pans are going to work out well for you. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Small update The chassis is going in second week of january to be media blasted and put on a first layer of paint.. i know they will blast through the front side here and there but i'm gonna look first how bad it is after blasting...
The backpanel is ready to be welded on, replaced the underside, not going to redo the indents, it's good enough like this for me.. so after prepping and putting on weld thru primer, this is the end result
Also made my own battery bracket but going to modify the design as it is sloppy atm
PS happy holidays

The kick panel wall turned out great. Nice fit along the floor and tunnel area too. Can't really tell it's been messed with. Nice job Andy. You're really making great progress with it it. Can't really tell those are Ghia pans now. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Thought i would give a small update...
The chassis has been media blasted and painted with first layer brantho paint, i knew the front floor pans would be blasted through but it was ok, not that much, i welded the pinholes shut and.. today i finally added second black coat whilst the first early spring sun was shining
Now another black layer and after that put on some gravel protection, after that, add a double layer on the top side!

Little update here
Have been working now and then on my subframe, the torsion bushing mounts thingy's are rusted out, in the end decided to try to redo them as good as possible, i ordered some spring plate covers to reconstruct them and with lot's of hammering, welding, grinding and fitting, this is the result so far, almost ready with the worst side
A bit strange that they rust there.. because the backside is in fairly good condition..

Agreed. I've never seen one rust out there either, not even on that rusty 71 Notch I rebuilt. Very odd. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Thanks Michael and Bob!
Yes, very odd indeed.. even then, the spring plate covers need a bit of work to fit because the notches for the rubber bushing need to be made tighter to jam the bushing itself
But there are no other options so |

Looking good Andy. It won't be long before you're either building up the pan, or joining the body to the pan. Either way, that'll be a big day. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Thank you Bob
Time for a small update, the chassis is ready, except for some small works like changing the gear oil, lubing the front axle, adjusting the tie rods, adjusting the brake pedal and place external oil filter
The learning curve was steep, also because the PO did use some parts from beetle/karmann ghia, the transaxle is still that so i needed to redrill the dent where the steering coupler goes because in those models the bolts goes in from the top in the interior
The brake drums i've replaced with some good used oem drums so i've got the 45mm brake shoes in the back with all new internals and bearings, in the front i got refurbished BMW calipers with 42mm pistons so the guidance plate needed some tweaking and the piston some turning, i've made a special tool for this where i welded a nut to some wire stripping pliers, the bolt can be used to lock up the tool in the piston, see pictures .. also replaced the single MC to dual and got a push 153mm pushrod
Spring plates were a pita to get back on......
..but it feels good to have gotten every nut and bolt thorugh my hands from scratch
Next thing to do also is paint the inner wheel wells etc, after that the "marriage" can be performed with the shell and the car can go off to the painter
Eithet way, enjoy some pictures ..Also added a picture from myself putting the first wheel back on, with my safety sandals, special feeling after 10 years, you can see the the enthousiasm from my face

Very nice. Good looking rolling pan you have there Andy. Looks damn good. All that work is now behind you, and just waiting on the body to go on it. Looks ready for it too. Congrats, you're ready to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and touch it. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof
